Thai-lovers, your favourite festival is returning in 2026! Thai Festival is back, this time taking place at the Barratt Reserve in West Beach, with bigger crowds and some sensational live talent. On March 29, the Thai-Australian Association of South Australia is hosting their 8th annual festival, this year called ‘Loy Krathong’.

Association chairperson Supattra Hom-On says this year the crowds are expected to reach over 8,000 in what promises to be the biggest display of Thai culture in the festival’s history.

“Loy Krathong is a very traditional full moon festival with lanterns floating in a river, to get rid of bad luck for the year and to pay respect to the river,” says Supattra. “At this event, we’re probably going to have a small pool where people can come with their homemade lanterns.”

“It’s an event all about showcasing the Thai culture with good food and traditional performances,” says Supattra. “We’re also expecting a student dance company from Thailand to come over, if their visas come through in time.”

There’s lots to get excited about with this festival, including dancing and live music, a fashion show of traditional Thai dresses, a Muay Thai boxing exhibition on stage, intricate fruit carving and flower arranging, and food trucks with authentic Thai cuisine.

For the kids, you can look forward to an arts and crafts station with painting and games, and for the grownups, alcohol tastings in the beer garden, with superior drops and brews directly from Thailand.

If you love Thai food and are keen to embrace the vibrant culture of Thailand, you’ll want to mark this one in your calendar. On March 29, there’s no place you’d rather be.
