On 18 January 2015, People’s Choice Credit Union will partner with Cancer Council SA to present the country’s cheekiest fun run: the People’s Choice Undies Run for Bowel Cancer; a fun event with a serious message.
With 100,000 spectators, a ready-made 1.7km racing arena and more than 1,000 runners decked out in matching underwear, this is surely the most fun you can have in your undies! We’ll strip off to get our run on just before the People’s Choice Classic opening race of the Santos Tour Down Under cycling event in Adelaide early next year, but registrations opened online at undiesrun.com.au today.
The purpose of the event is to raise funds and awareness for bowel cancer screening, and reduce the embarrassment associated with it. So, we’re challenging people to strip down to their underwear for a run in the heart of Adelaide, to help show that that has got to be way more embarrassing than a simple test.
Bowel cancer is the country’s second-most commonly diagnosed cancer, killing 4000 Australians each year. But, early detection and treatment can significantly increase the chances of survival, with up to 90% of bowel cancers deemed treatable if detected early. The awkwardness of bowel cancer screening is not worth dying for.
Since its inception, the Undies Run has raised $280,000 for Cancer Council SA and funded the distribution of 7,000 life-saving bowel cancer screening kits.
More than 1,400 people took part in the second People’s Choice Undies Run for Bowel Cancer in January 2014 – running, jogging and strolling in their smalls, and raising more than $156,000 for Cancer Council SA to support its fight against bowel cancer. In 2015, we’re hoping our undies will get even bigger!
