The 2020 Westpac City-Bay Fun Run cancelled, but virtual event to go ahead

SA’s biggest fun run, will this year be replaced with a virtual event, where participants can race over a five-week period.

South Australia’s biggest fun run, which is traditionally held each September, will this year be replaced with a virtual event, where participants can race over a five-week period.

After initially being pushed from September to November, to try and accommodate the ever-changing COVID-19 restrictions, the organisers of the popular event have said that they are unfortunately unable to facilitate the running of the 2020 Westpac City-Bay Fun Run.

The Westpac City-Bay Fun Run Presented by Sunday Mail Facebook page posted over the weekend, saying “We are as disappointed as this is the first time in the 48 year history of the City-Bay that the race will not run in its conventional form.”

Their statement about the cancellation of the physical event due to the ongoing health crisis, said that “All existing 2020 registered participants will automatically receive entry into the 2020 and 2021 event, no action is required.”

They went on to say that they were excited however, to offer a new alternative in 2020, with a virtual fun run.

The Facebook page stated “To ensure that your training does not go to waste, today we’re excited to launch the Westpac City-Bay Fun Run Presented by Sunday Mail Virtual Run.  We would love you to join us, with the same spirit and sense of community to take on the distance/s of your choice. Our virtual event runs from 24 October until 30 November 2020.

“To show our thanks for your continued support of the event, we are offering all current 2020 registered participants entry into the 2020 virtual event and the 2021 event to be held on 19 September 2021. An email will be sent with instructions on how to redeem your entry.”
