The 4 best new restaurants in Adelaide named by Gourmet Traveller

Australia’s premier luxury food magazine Gourmet Traveller has revealed its picks for the best new and upcoming restaurants and bars across Australia, including the four standout new restaurants in Adelaide. These top spots are The Botanic Lodge, Thelma Piccadilly, Bottega Bandito, and La Louisiane. Here’s a closer look at each!

The Botanic Lodge

The Botanic Lodge, located in the Adelaide Botanic Garden, opened in late September. Created by Chef Tom Tilbury and Blanco Horner Hospitality, it offers a relaxed yet stylish atmosphere with a focus on nature. Located behind the famous Restaurant Botanic, The Lodge is housed in the historic Simpson’s Kiosk, which has been beautifully renovated by Williams Burton Leopardi, blending Australian charm with modern design.

At The Lodge, Chef Tilbury showcases local, seasonal produce with an ethically sourced menu. Some standout dishes include Tommies in bread and butter with iceberg lettuce and mayo, Nannygai with asparagus and lemon leaf in white sauce, and a Lamington dessert with quandong jam and coconut ice cream.

Thelma Piccadilly

Food experts James Spreadbury, Olivia Moore, and Tom Campbell have teamed up once again to create Thelma in Piccadilly. With their backgrounds in food and wine, they’ve created a unique dining experience inspired by European bistros, offering all-day dining where a morning coffee and a pastry can easily turn into a glass of wine with savoury snacks.

The menu showcases the natural flavours of ferments, vegetables, proteins, and carbs, all of which shine individually while working well together. The dishes, simple in presentation, reflect the chefs’ attention to detail, bringing the essence of country-style food to life.

Bottega Bandito, the popular delicatessen from Prospect, opened a second location in Adelaide’s CBD this year. Known for its freshly made sandwiches on house-made sourdough focaccia, along with a delicious range of pastries, Bottega Bandito has become a favourite among Adelaide’s sandwich lovers.

The new James Place location shines a light on the same favourites as the Prospect store, with both takeaway and dine-in options available for customers. The addition of a micro-bakery sees freshly baked goods made daily at both locations.

La Louisiane

La Louisiane became a permanent fixture this year after its success as a pop-up, with Adelaide demanding that its relaxed yet sophisticated vibe stick around.

Now on King William Street, the venue blends Parisian romance with French classics, created by Alexis Besseau, former head chef at Restaurant Hubert in Sydney. The menu features French brasserie dishes made with local and some imported French ingredients.

With live jazz and a world-class beverage program, La Louisiane is a truly unique dining experience in Adelaide, as seen by its roaming caviar cart. Step into the basement and enjoy a lively, fun vibe that takes you straight to Paris, every night from 5pm until late.

Where: 89 King William Street, Adelaide
