In the midst of all the glitz and glamour of this season’s cabaret festivals, Peta-Anne offers her top five tips on how to standout among the vitality of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival and Cabaret Fringe Festival. The nights might be chilly, but the entertainment and the fashion is hot to trot. So where does this leave our all-important style and fashion choices?
Go for an up-do or something sleek, but make your hair a statement. Seeing a show straight from work? No problem – pop in to your hairdresser for a quick pick-me-up. You could even visit the Zhush Bar at the Cabaret Festival where you can get a new look exclusive for the Cabaret season by the fabulous people at Orbe (especially at Orbe North Adelaide – these guys are cleaning up the awards this year!).Bat Your Lashes
Eyelashes are the best way to accentuate your natural beauty or a fun way to get a little cabaret. Lashes come in all shapes and sizes but for this season of the cabaret festivals – the bigger and battier, the better.
This season at the cabaret festivals its all about bold brazen colour. Ditch the basic black and have a bit of fun your styling by choosing some bright pinks, oranges or reds. Bright colours will warm up during any cold June night.
Fur that is. Its all the rage this season. So don’t be afraid of some unusual colours. We would recommend Adelaide Costume Designer, Oliver Freear, who designed and created a fabulous electric blue stole with baubles specially for Peta-Anne. As you can see, it’s a mixture of Cookie Monster and Park Avenue Princess. How fabulous.
Baubles, Bangles, Beads
This is the time of year to bring out all the baubles and pretty trinkets. Why not wear a vintage brooch or three on your lapel, or pop them in your hair for something more decadent.
So what good is sitting alone in your room? Life is a cabaret, old chum. Be a stand-out, be fabulous, be yourself. During this season of cabaret, there is nothing better than splashing out with bright colours, big lashes, and pretty trinkets.
