We have the 5 must-have trend pieces that will update your current wardrobe to keep you cosy, chic and comfortable this season.

Words: Lauren Dilena

As the temperature cools and with winter right around the corner, most of us ponder ‘what did I wear last winter?’ and ‘how the heck did I get by?’.

One handy stylist tip that I teach my personal clients is to pick 5 must-have trend pieces that will update your current wardrobe to keep you cosy, chic and comfortable this season.

Utilitarian fashion is back and it is bigger than ever. This first piece needs no introduction, with fan favourite the cargo pants (last seen circa 90s). The straight leg cargo is a great option to modernise your look and incorporate an androgynous silhouette. Opt for textured fabric like; leather, cotton drills and denim to keep it versatile for any occasion.

If you thought the boyfriend blazer was just a fad-trend, I beg you to think again. As they say ‘go big or go home’, oversized comfort is making a powerful statement on our shores and overseas. Look for patterns like checks and plaids, fabrications in wool and boucle, and colour tones from scarlet red to martini olive .

Another oversized trend piece making a bold return is the puffer vests. Embrace the larger proportions and go bold in colourways like canary yellow and bottle green. One of my motto’s I swear by, is to ‘invest in a vest’. This season’s vest is as multipurpose when styling than most. Wear it to the gym or in athleisure wear for your weekend coffee run or social gatherings.

Puffer, Cotton On

Leather trench coats and chunky oxfords are the last two essential pieces to modify your winter wardrobe. Black, chocolate and off white are popular tones to choose. If you’re wanting to add some zing to your life look at tiger prints, shearling fabric or even metal hardware.

Motto of the story, this winter 23’ is to be bold and adventurous. Remember one key point, ‘don’t let the clothes wear you, but instead you wear the clothes’.
