Australian Distilling Co.’s Geelong Gin has achieved a remarkable feat by surpassing over 60 gins from various countries, including the UK, USA, Australia, France, Canada, New Zealand, Brazil, and Mexico, to claim the title of the world’s best.
This triumph comes two years after the company’s original Adelaide Gin secured the prestigious Best in Class – Platinum Award at the renowned SIP Awards in Los Angeles. In 2024, Geelong Gin clinched the highest honour at this global spirits competition, renowned for its utilisation of anonymous consumers as judges, making it the most esteemed and fiercely contested gin award worldwide.
Geelong Gin impressed judges by outclassing 64 other gins from esteemed brands and distilleries worldwide, such as Highclere Castle, Brockman’s, No. 3 London Dry Gin, and Eden Mill St Andrew’s from the UK, Martin Miller’s from the US, and Archie Rose from Australia.
“With Geelong Gin joining our Adelaide Gin as winners of the world’s best gin, we are proud to be recognised as Makers of the World’s Best Gin and Australia’s Most Awarded Distillery with more than 300 global awards,” said company founder Michael Hickinbotham, whose father and grandparents were born in Geelong.
His great-grandfather David played a crucial role in the Geelong Cats’ premiership victories during the 1880s.
“Given my family’s roots and connections to Geelong, I’m thrilled our gin dedicated to this fantastic city and region has been recognised as the best in the world.”
Among the Australian Distilling Co.’s collection are eight urban spirits, four destination spirits, and six national spirits, each bearing homage to their namesake. “With distilleries spanning every mainland state, our range reflects our local pride,” noted Michael Hickinbotham.
