The Adelaide Youth Orchestra Annual Babies Proms Is Back

Babies_PromsThe Adelaide Youth Orchestras’ annual Babies Proms event returns to the ASO Grainger Studio on Sunday October 27 at 11am (one performance only) – with the 60-piece Adelaide Youth Sinfonia joining forces with the Young Adelaide Voices Intermediate Choir to present a fun-filled concert designed to entertain and educate kids aged up to five.

This will be the 8th year SA’s leading youth music organisation has staged a Babies Proms concert, proving its formula for providing Adelaide parents with a relaxed and entertaining environment in which to introduce their pre-school aged children to a classical live music performance is a winning one.

Featuring group sing-alongs to popular children’s tunes, opportunities to get hands-on with the instruments and the performance of some well-loved orchestral masterpieces – Babies Proms is a dynamic event that’s equally fun for the musicians and singers as it is for the colourful and responsive audience.

“Babies Proms is always a highlight of our concert calendar because everybody involved just has so much fun,” says AdYO’s Artistic Director, Associate Professor Keith Crellin OAM. “Along with first-time parents who can’t wait to introduce their young ones to the magic of music-making, we see a lot of mums and dads returning to Babies Proms for a second and third time – sometimes even bringing new additions to the family with them.”

Providing the magic this year will be the Adelaide Youth Sinfonia – under the baton of Peter Handsworth – and the Young Adelaide Voices Intermediate Choir, conducted by Trish Hart – with children’s theatre writer, performer and Adelaide mother of three, Bronwen James as compere. The Intermediate Choir is an energetic and lively choir of young primary-school aged choristers from Years 3 to 5.

The Adelaide Youth Sinfonia comprises 60 high school aged musicians and at this year’s Babies Proms, the ensemble will present works by composers including Tchaikovsky, Holst, Brahms and Berlioz.
