The Autumn Trend You Need In Your Home

If there is one thing you add to your home this season, make it this trend (that is so much more than a trend)…

Trends. They come and go like the seasons. Some we are glad to see go like bad floral wallpaper or that Groovy Chick craze… What were the kids of the 90s thinking? But there are some trends that are more than that. They are classics, pieces that will flow into every season and never get old.

Now when we say tribal you might think ‘oh god that is just another horrid trend’, but you would be wrong. Because when you do tribal in the right way, it can be chic, understated and oh so luxe. And with Autumn upon us, the dusty hues of the tribal trend are just what our homes need right now.

Tribal doesn’t need to mean tacky feathers or khaki, but rather subtle hints to far off places.

Have you been stuck in the mundane tempo of your life? Have you got itchy feet? Itchy feet to get up and go and explore what the world has to offer? But alas, travelling is expensive, you can’t get the time off work and then there is the issue of the kids…

Well while you figure out how you are going to get the next flight to Cape Town, why not bring the safari to you through the interior of your home?

You see the thing with travel is, there is always the reward. Seeing new places, experiencing new things. But what about the negatives. The organising, the packing and the dreaded unpacking, the long haul flights, the jet lag, the living out of a suitcase, the cost… We could go on. Don’t get us wrong, we love to travel as much as the next person, but when you can make your home feel like the escape from the comfort of your couch (or better yet, bed) then point us in that direction!

Wanderlust – a strong desire to travel. It was also the most used phrase on Instagram in 2015. But curve those cravings and get creative and inspired by decor pieces that have you feeling like you are roaming through a Bazaar in Morocco or cruising the African plains on a safari.

From your bedroom to the dining room, fill the spaces around you with sensual silks, inspiring prints and luscious leather that transport you to that dream destination.

In saying all of this it is important to show restraint. Don’t go painting everything khaki green, decking all of your floors with animal hyde and going overboard with the wooden pieces. And for goodness sake, remove that safari suit! The tribal trend is all about minimalism. Unless you can create the bedroom pictured below which shows no restraint and not a hint of minimalism, but looks all kinds of awesome. If you can recreate that, then we say go for it!

If you aren’t feeling adventurous and you are more of the cautious type, you may be questioning this whole tribal thing… In which case, add it to your life in a subtle way. A beautiful water jug that looks good enough to have on display, a dining chair, a soft and chocolatey blanket to throw over your couch. It doesn’t need to be dramatic.

A clash of prints can be the perfect start. A cushion with an African print on it against a rug with an Aztec pattern. Keep it contemporary. But don’t forget about nature. As much as colour is important, keep it real by blending in natural and earthy tones.

But remember that it isn’t all about clashing bold prints and colour, it is also about textures. Add some wooden pieces to the mix. Try combining a mix of a more distressed piece with the clean look of a polished piece. Then you could incorporate modern chic by adding some concrete. Think outside the wooden box…

Tribal and luxe might not be two words you normally put together, but in the case of your home, they most definitely are! Think beaten metals, copper, bronze, a burnished gold piece. The best way to introduce this is through a vase or vessel. Work the metallics in with warmer hues, the contrast is both aesthetically pleasing and totally on trend.
