The Bay Sheffield announces major changes ahead of this year’s event

South Australia’s most famous and richest foot racing event will be expanded to a three-day Carnival instead of its traditional two days.

The Bay Sheffield has been an institution since 1886, and as you can see in the above image from 1985, the Carnival is notorious for bringing people together and celebrating in the sunshine.

South Australia’s most famous and richest foot racing event will be expanded to a three-day Carnival instead of its traditional two days.

The 136th running of the Bay Sheffield will return to its traditional home, Colley Reserve, in 2022 in a new look Carnival where ACH Group Stadium (Glenelg Oval) will also host several other races throughout the year.

The dual-venue concept will provide the opportunity for local and interstate athletes to experience the benefits of both venues and allow the program to grow to cater for the different needs of runners.

“ACH Group Stadium has been a terrific venue for the Bay Sheffield Carnival in the last two years throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, but Colley Reserve means so much to so many people,” President of the South Australian Athletic League, Colin Rowston said.

“Utilising both venues means we can make the best of both options and grow the event at the same time. Now that this decision has been made, the hard work begins to secure sponsors and get everything in place for an event which all South Australians can be proud of,” Rowston continues.

The event hold such great weight in the community, which is highlighted by its continuous support from residents and visitors alike.

ACH Group Stadium will provide two days of spectacular running action on December 27 and 28, with the final day to be run on Colley Reserve on December 29.
