Just like that, all the madness of March is over and April is giving us some time to recover. But, that doesn’t mean you’ll being stocking up the pantry and get cosy on the sofa for a binge session of Netflix. No, that’s not how we do it in Adelaide. This month is filled with relaxed vibes and lots of food and wine for all to enjoy. There will be wedding fairs, festivals, the biggest South Australian LEGO exhibit, Brick-A-Laide, and of course Easter to tie us over until next month rolls in.

Saturday, April 1 – East End Wine Down. The annual ‘tastefest’ of the city, East End Wine Down, is back again for another year, and is set to be the largest event yet. Following a sell-out crowd last year, Adelaide’s premier Cellars, East End Cellars is again proudly presenting the East End Wine Down, now in its fourteen year. With 42 wineries all showcasing four or more wines, there’ll be 160 different wines to taste as well as a host of SA made ciders beers and a dedicated gin bar.

Saturday, April 1 – Houndwave. Can we get a bow wow for the genius that came up with this?! Houndwave is Adelaide’s pooch-friendly music festival with markets and doggies galore. The free community event will take over Light Square with a great live music live up. Bring along your furry mates for a good time. No cats allowed.

Saturday, April 1 – Flickerfest. returns to The Mercury to celebrate the most entertaining and innovative short filmmaking from around the world. Offering two handpicked selections to showcase the Best Of Australian Shorts and the Best Of International Shorts from this year’s event, The Mercury will showcase 17 shorts from the Flickerfest 2017 program.This is a one-off chance to see these amazing short films before they continue their journey around the world; expect to experience the best in short filmmaking Australia has on offer. Saturday, April 1 – Sunday, April 2 – Oz Comic Con. Release your inner nerd! Don’t deny it, we all have one. It’s back for another year and there’s plenty to check out; exhibitors, the gaming zone, the family activity room and the brand new anime station. And be sure to turn heads with that killer cosplay costume you’ll be wearing.

Saturday, April 1 – Arabian Nights at The Tivoli. Live Arabic music complimented by a delicious smorgasbord of food on each table. Featuring The Brothers Band with singers Marzan Faraj & Rami El Mir from Sydney.

Wednesday, April 5 – Jessica Mauboy | The Australian Tour. Jessica Mauboy’s long-awaited headline show is finally here. At the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, she’ll be taking the stage with tracks from her new #1 ARIA album, songs from the original tv series The Secret Daughter and her greatest hits from the last 10 years. Friday, April 7 and April 28th – Bird In Hand Twilight Dinner Series. Family-owned Adelaide Hills winery Bird in Hand is opening its restaurant, The Gallery, in the evening for the first time, for a brand-new Friday Twilight series. The Friday Twilight series is an opportunity for wine lovers to sample the menu from new Chef de Cuisine Carlos Astudillo in the evening whilst taking in the beautiful scenery of Woodside in the Adelaide Hills.

Friday, April 7 – City Cellar Door with Shut the Gate & Vinteloper. Shut the Gate! The National Wine Centre is bringing the wines of Shut the Gate Wines and Vinteloper to the city. Savour the flavours of these fabulous wineries in this mini-festival atmosphere. Progression masterclass’ are available where you’ll hear from the winemakers themselves as they guide you through their winemaking process.

Saturday, April 8 – Adelaide’s Ultimate Ladies Night. A girls night out is just what we need! The entertainment will begin as soon as you step into the Stamford Grand Ballroom. What do we mean? Well, be greeted with a glass of bubbly upon arrival by some very hunky waiters. A three-course menu will await you along with a 3 and a half hour beverage package. Saturday, April 8 – Sunday, April 9 – Heirloom Weekend. Join the Diggers Club and Adelaide Botanic Garden staff as they celebrate heirloom veggies, plants, seeds and produce. There will be live music and children’s activities from 10 am until 3 pm as well as free expert-led workshops and gardening and preserving masterclass.

Saturday, April 8 and Wednesday, April 15th – Settlers Spirits Gin Masterclass.  Basically, you’ll be working with the talented creator of the Settler’s Spirits gin range, Rowland Short, who is worth paying the money for, just to hang out with. Rowland will be taking you through the botanicals used to make and flavour the gins at Settlers, to show you how it all goes together. You’ll be able to sample the range, fine tune your palate, and (drumroll please) you’ll be able to create your own gin and take home your very own bottle of the magical stuff.

Friday, April 14 – Sunday, April 30 – Sand Sculpting Australia Presents ‘Alice In Wonderland. Sand sculpting like you’ve never seen it before. Held down at the Port Noarlunga Esplanade between, you can walk amongst the scenes from the magical tale of Alice In Wonderland – for example, the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, The Queen Of Hearts procession, and spot the cheeky Cheshire Cat. Saturday, April 15 – Monday, April 17 – Oakbank Easter Racing Carnival. With an excuse to dress up, have a barbie (you can bring your own FYI), a few champers and basically just a fun day out with friends and family, the Oakbank Easter Racing Carnival – held on Easter Saturday and Monday – is one social event you don’t want to miss. It’s not just the adults who can have fun! It’s a family-oriented event, so there’s plenty of activities and entertainment for the kiddies, including rides, a petting zoo and face painting.

Friday, April 28 – The Pot Food & Wine Last Friday Of The Month Dinner. These monthly lunches have become somewhat of a cult foodie club. At the end of each month The Pot Food & Wine do a special themed long lunch paired with wines. April’s theme is South-East Asian food. There are however, limited number of seats so book in early.

Saturday, April 29 – High Voltage Rocks The Tiv. High Voltage rock out at one of Australia’s most iconic live music venues, The Tiv. Sunday, April 30 – Eat Ediacara: Degustation Inspired From The Ancient Seafloor. You’ve probably never been to a fossil-inspired feast! Well, that’s all about to change with Chef Hardy Weyrauch delivering a six-course creative culinary degustation that combines native Australian flavours and premium seafood from the West Coast of the Eyre Peninsula. Sunday, April 30 – TASTE of the EARTH. Schild Estate will showcase one of their new release wines in a pop-up cellar door among the vineyard from where the fruit is picked. Soak up the sights, smells, tastes and genuine beauty of the setting, as they share their passion for the best single vineyard wines, served with the finest food the Barossa has to offer.

Sunday, April 30 – National Wine Centre: Wedding Open Day. The award winning venue is open for you to experience. Sip Australian sparkling wine while you tour the range of flawlessly decorated function rooms and stunning outdoor terrace that overlooks the Botanic Gardens. More than 20 of their preferred suppliers will be showcasing their products and services and if you wish you’ll have the chance to discuss all your wedding essentials with the in-house wedding specialist.
