Monday 14 June saw Australia’s leading hair creatives take some time to celebrate the best of the best, gathering at The Star in Sydney for a glamorous black-tie gala awards evening.

Some of South Australia’s top hair talent was recognised at the event, marking a huge night for Prospect-based salon SJ Establishment who took home two of the evening’s top gongs.

Mario Fioravanti, a senior stylist at SJ Establishment, was named as the AHIA SA Hairdresser of the Year, recognised as the state’s very best for the trend-focused cuts, colours and styles that the Prospect salon are well known for.

The whole team at SJ Establishment celebrated another win that evening when they were awarded the prestigious title of AHIA Creative Team of the Year, an award that applauds the creativity and ingenuity that keeps clients returning to this already-legendary salon, which has only been open to clients for two years but already has built an impressive reputation amongst clients and industry peers alike.

Owner and Director Sam James has worked tirelessly to make her mark on the industry with an incredible team of hair talents alongside her, focusing on placing the client journey at the forefront of their unique salon experience.

In another win for Adelaide’s hair industry, Anthony Staltari was named the AHIA Men’s Hair Specialist of the Year for his expertise of the common taper, fade and razor at Barbery, The Craft of a Barber Academy.

In his role at Master Barber, Anthony is the elating education specialist, mentoring the next generation of SA’s up-and-coming talent through traditional and innovative barbering techniques. Anthony’s win is particularly impressive considering his humble beginnings, operating a makeshift salon out of his parent’s garage at the age of 14.

100 esteemed international and local judges were enlisted to analyse the impressive entries including representatives from publications such as Instyle, New Idea and Woman’s Day.

With the ongoing impact of COVID-19, the hair and beauty industry has been faced with unprecedented economic and logistical challenges, but 2021 brings renewed positivity and solidarity amongst industry professionals as salons can finally reconnect.

Launched in 2012 by trade visionaries Mocha Publishing, the Australian Hair Industry Awards are celebrating their 0th year as the trusted national award platform which provides a benchmark of excellence across specialist and individual categories in both education and business areas.
