The Block is back and bigger than ever, as the renovation show gears up for an epic showdown of Fans v Faves airing on August 8th.

The Channel 9 show will be chocker-block full of new surprises, with some familiar faces returning to battle it out against newcomers in what is set to be an unforgettable 17th season.

Previous contestants Ronnie and Georgia (2017) from Perth, and Mitch and Mark (2019) from Sydney, will go head-to-head against hopeful newbies in the Melbourne bayside suburb of Hampton.

In a series full of firsts, the show has torn up the contestant’s blueprints, challenging teams to blindly renovate a traditional Australian cul-de-sac with no house plans.

Joining the returning stars will be Love Island twins, Josh and Luke from Sydney, Melbourne parents Tanya and Vito, and country kids Kirsty and Jesse from Wangi Wangi in New South Wales.

At stake is $100,000 for the winner of The Block, and any additional profits made from their home on the critical auction day. All that is standing in the way are five dilapidated homes and three fierce judges.

“This will be a dramatic showdown like we’ve never seen before,” says Scott Cam, who will return to host his 15th season.

“This build was extremely tough to place and work out where things would go for many of our contestants because of this new twist. The plans have been thrown out the window and it leads to plenty of stuff-ups.”

“The Fans have everything to gain and the Faves have reputations to uphold.”

This season will also literally dig deeper than ever, with each property having an underground excavation for contestants to create a basement in their homes.

While there are no building plans in place, The Block’s resident architect Julian Brenchley will be on hand to assist the couples as they design their homes.

Tune in at 7pm on August 8th to watch the unforgettable season unfold on Channel 9 and 9Now, or keep up-to-date on The Blocks Facebook.
