Adelaide’s Botanic Garden will soon house a fresh culinary venture, ‘The Botanic Lodge’, under the Baton of acclaimed chef Tom Tilbury. This new addition from the team behind Restaurant Botanic is scheduled for an early September unveiling. Often regarded as a leading figure in modern Australian cuisine, Tilbury, who has made a significant mark with ventures like Gather Food and Wine, is ready to charm diners with his latest offering.
The Botanic Lodge, affectionately referred to as ‘The Lodge’, will be positioned conveniently behind the iconic Restaurant Botanic. The design promises a casual yet refined indoor/outdoor dining arrangement, masterfully conceptualised by architecture firm Williams Burton Leopardi. According to Tilbury, the design and location have been chosen with great care to align with the natural beauty of the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. He states, “I’m thrilled to bring this new concept to life in such a stunning location. The Adelaide Botanic Gardens have always held a special place in my heart.”
Tilbury’s approach highlights a deep appreciation for local produce and sustainable practises. The Lodge will serve as a platform to celebrate and elevate South Australian ingredients in an accessible environment. Tilbury added, “It’s about showcasing incredible produce we have here in South Australia, but in a setting that can be both indulgent and casual.”
Tilbury brings to The Lodge his extensive experience and passion for a farm-to-table dining ethos informed by his prior successes and international influences.
Steve Blanco and Christopher Horner, Co-founders of Blanco Horner Hospitality Management, have shared their thoughts on the new venue, saying “The Lodge represents the next exciting chapter and our ongoing commitment to delivering exceptional dining experiences,” commented Steve. He further shared, “It embodies our customer-focused philosophy while offering a more relaxed, everyday dining option. It’s Restaurant Botanic’s friendly, easy-going neighbour.”
While Tilbury has remained tight-lipped about the full menu details, he hints at a dynamic selection that will evolve with the seasons. However, he did reveal a nostalgic element in the form of a soft serve machine, hinting at the possibility of ice creams reminiscent of his childhood visits to the park.
‘The Botanic Lodge’ is set to open its doors in early September, promising to enhance Adelaide’s reputation as a premier food destination. The addition of such a venture within the idyllic setting of the city’s botanical gardens is expected to draw both locals and tourists eager to experience the combination of exceptional dining and natural beauty.
