Adelaide’s premier design market, Bowerbird, is back this November with a treasure trove of unique Australian-designed finds all under one roof, just in time to start working through your Christmas shopping list.
From Friday, 17th November to Sunday, 19th, the Wayville Pavilion at Adelaide Showground will be transformed into a haven for market lovers and foodies alike and is a vibrant celebration of art, fashion, homewares, jewellery, food and more, and will feature a stack of fun activities and a diverse range of inspiring and creative offerings perfect for the whole family.

Owner and director of Bowerbird, Peggy Byrne, has an extensive history in hosting and running events around the state and is proud to give Australian designers and small businesses an opportunity to be noticed and reach new audiences.
‘I’m an advocate for small businesses and building a creative environment where business owners, designers and customers can all come together and connect—it’s what I’m passionate about’, says Peggy. ‘I like to have a mix of new and favourite designers at each market, and this November, I’m excited to introduce 41 new designers and a blend of 60% South Australian and 40% interstate talent.’

The great thing about the Bowerbird markets is that designers need to be present for at least one of the three days to represent their brand and connect with shoppers.
‘It’s a better sales and customer experience when people can connect with the creators and understand the background of a brand or product’, says Peggy. ‘Designers also learn a lot from the interaction and really get to discover what customers want, which is a valuable component of the market for them.’

‘Kicking off on Friday night at 4 pm, the lineup of designers is curated to ensure variety, quality and seasonality’, says Peggy. ‘There’ll be many artists, including painters, sculptors and illustrators; we have homewares featuring knife makers, ceramicists, and woodworkers; there is fashion for both adults and children, a diverse range of Australian-designed jewellery, plus goodies for our four-legged friends too.’
With enough to tick off your entire Christmas list in one go, Bowerbird will also feature a body health section with various body products on offer, such as soaps, perfumes, body washes, salts, and herbal teas, and guests can also book themselves in for interactive creative workshops, which will include a painting session with Renee Goulding, and, just in time for the holiday season, a wreath making workshop with Rebecca Trevitt from Ponder Posy.

And, if retail therapy ain’t your thang, people are welcome to indulge in the array of food and drink on offer and just kick back and soak up the atmosphere whilst indulging a feed or tasting.
‘We have an expanded selection of producers in our Pantry and Bar category due to the high demand from previous events’, says Peggy. ‘You can try the latest gin, whisky and various wines as well as great pantry treats such as chocolates, almonds, biscuits, condiments and oils. Of course, there’s a dining area and a bar with lots of delicious foods and drinks on offer for lunch or dinner.’

To ensure you’re completely sorted for the holiday season, Bowerbird will also provide gift-wrapping services for a small donation, with all donations going to Catherine House, which provides crisis, longer-term accommodation and support services to women experiencing homelessness in South Australia.
