Adelaide Fringe-goers looking for the right amount of love, laughs and liquor – The Bulmers Best of Edinburgh Comedy Fest may be for you. Just outside the hustle and bustle of the busy CBD (which, let's all concede, is somewhat unbearable at Fringe time), Hindmarsh haunt The Gov will host the event, which showcases some of the best talent from the international Edinburgh Comedy Festival.
This year, Adelaide audiences will be treated to the likes of the hilariously superb Jimmy McGhie, John Fothergill and Tom Allen (pictured). I was invited to the show last Friday, and I can genuinely say that no, it wasn't just the cider talking – these comedians are some of the best I've seen in years. The Australian heat, British gangs, Grindr, social networking, with many a swear word here and there – these were just some of the discussions which Jimmy, John and Tom neatly wrapped into 2 hours of hilarity.
While it's customary to flock to the Garden of Unearthly Delights or city centre pubs for the best comedy acts at Fringe time, don't overlook some of the world's finest doing what they do best at one of Adelaide's most loved local venues. The delicious cider is always a plus, too. Highly recommended
