The Cat Empire joins the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra for two nights only

Legendary Australian band The Cat Empire will join forces with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra (ASO) for two spectacular concerts at the Festival Theatre.

Legendary Aussie band, The Cat Empire, will join forces with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra (ASO) for two spectacular concerts at the Festival Theatre. Take advantage of this rare chance to experience the band’s vibrant sound in a whole new light, blending their classic hits and fresh material with orchestral arrangements.

Over the October Long Weekend, Cat Empire fans can expect to hear beloved favourites and exciting new tunes, all enriched by the lush orchestral backdrop.

Illuminating stages across the world for the past two decades, The Cat Empire has captivated millions with their high energy performances and explosive sounds, with this orchestral tour continuing to thrill and captivate audiences with a high-energy and spirited live performance.

Building on their impressive legacy, Felix Riebl and Ollie McGill are the driving forces behind the band’s fresh future, recently welcoming bassist Grace Barbe, trumpet player Lazaro Numa and percussionist Neda Rahmani into the Empire.

For ASO’s principal percussionist, Sami Butler, this performance holds special significance.

“The Cat Empire was a major soundtrack of my childhood, so it’s surreal to share the stage with them now,” he shares.

“I remember playing an arrangement of ‘Hello’ in my primary school concert band, so it’ll be nice to get a crack at it again some 20 years later. Hopefully I’ve improved!”

Arrangements for these special shows has been developed with The Cat Empire’s long-time musical director Ross Irwin and conducted by Vanessa Scammell.

The addition of incredible flamenco artists Richard Tedesco, Johnny Tedesco, and Chantelle Cano will bring even more flair to the performance, ensuring a night filled with vibrant rhythms and captivating melodies.

The tour will also see the band joined by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra (TSO) in their states respectively for a string of electrifying performances.

This follows last year’s success of the Spinifex Gum concerts – a collaboration between The Cat Empire, the Indigenous ensemble the Marliya Choir, Lyn Williams, and Deborah Brown.

Tickets are almost sold out for the two nights, fusing The Cat Empire’s energetic style with the symphonic power of the ASO.
