The crew behind Lightview’s Lumi Lane open Le Bon, Dernancourt’s newest ‘hidden gem’ cafe

It’s a corner spot with seats bathed in sunlight, a Lebanese-infused menu packed with flavour, and a drinks list that champions SA’s best.

We already know that the Lebanese-inspired Lumi Lane, run by Rima and Houssan, is a flavour sensation. Now, Wael and Jomana – friends of Lumi’s owners – have opened Le Bon, short for ‘Lebanon’ in French. The new spot has quietly arrived in Dernancourt, bringing with it all the flavour.

Tucked on the corner outside Dernancourt Shopping Centre, Le Bon is already being dubbed Adelaide’s newest “hidden gem,” with locals dropping by for smoothies, hearty all-day breakfasts, and cocktails, all served with what owner Jomana calls “a bit of a Lebanese touch.”

“Lebanese food has flavour,” she says. “And ours is packed with it—it’s the food I’ve had my whole life.”

The menu, designed by Rima, spans crowd-pleasing brunch classics like cheesy and juicy steak sandos, smoked salmon bagels, pancakes, and southern fried chicken burgers hugged by fluffy buns. But it’s the generously sized Bon Breakfast and Labneh Eggs with yoghurt, sumac, pine nuts and olive oil that have become instant hits. “People love it when they try it,” Jamana adds, and the photo tells all.

If you’re more of a sweet tooth, the cabinet is stocked with a delicious assortment of homemade cakes and pastries. Some are Lebanese-inspired, sitting alongside cannoli, lemon tarts and almond croissants.

The smoothies have also quickly developed a cult following. Minty matcha and salted caramel are the standouts – “very, very popular,” Jomana laughs. “People come in just for them.” And for the health crowd finishing up at the neighbouring gym, a scoop of protein powder is the go-to addition.

The drinks list keeps it local, from specialty coffee through to wines and beers sourced from some of the state’s best.

“We just got our licence approved, so our wines and beers are ready to go, and our cocktails are on the menu now,” Jomana tells us.

With outdoor seating perfect for a lazy lunch, the spot is already seeing people settling in with a glass of wine under the sunshine.

As for people’s response so far, “really good,” she says. “It’s a little shop on the corner, and there’s not much else around. We get a lot of people from the gym, and so many from our social media. A customer came in last week and said ‘your cakes are amazing’.”

“Everyone has different taste, but we’re happy to see so many of our customers coming in and enjoying what they’re having. That’s all we can ask for.”

Adelaide is spoilt for choice when it comes to most Asian cuisines, but good Lebanese food is a little harder to come by. Just three months in, Le Bon has already earned a loyal following for its twist on the classics. Dernancourt locals, you might have just scored the perfect spot for a glass in the spring sun, and those craving a flavourful feed with a Lebanese touch might find this “hidden gem” well worth the trip north.
