Down a country lane, encircled by McLaren Flat’s vineyards, sits The Currant Shed. Upon approach, this award-winning restaurant charms with its early 1900s rustic wood and corrugation façade, peaking through a layer of vines pouring down from its roof like icing on a cake.
Sitting proudly amid an esteemed cluster of McLaren Vale’s most celebrated fine-dining restaurants, The Currant Shed is a foodie destination for locals and explorers of our produce-laden Fleurieu Peninsula. With food comes wine, and neighbouring winery Shottesbrooke has been wound into the Currant Shed’s history and dining experience for so long that you can’t speak of one without mentioning the other.
While sitting in a sequestered, seemingly introverted calm, The Currant Shed’s bonds with the Fleurieu community have been forged over many years through local trade, celebration, and collaboration, bringing the vim and vigour of the extrovert’s desire to welcome in new friends and old through the Currant Shed’s doors.
One of the many occasions that unites this vibrant village is the annual Fleurieu Food Festival, held throughout August. True to its name, this celebration of flavour showcases the food and beverage producers from across the region.

The Currant Shed is grabbing the opportunity to celebrate its most passionate producers with a six-course degustation lunch, pairing three Fleurieu food heroes with three Fleurieu wine heroes, for The Producers Series Lunch on Friday, 23rd August.
Wines from McLaren Vale’s Larnook, Lino Ramble, and Geddes wineries will be partnered with goat cheese from Lilyarra in Victor Harbour, mushrooms from Choice Mushrooms in Morphett Vale, and lamb from Lacey Lambs in Willunga.
True to the seasonal nature of the Currant Shed’s menu, it will be finalised closer to the day to ensure the freshest flavours are on your plate.
The Currant Shed’s Head Chef, Wayne Leeson discussed the reasoning behind The Producers Series Lunch, sharing “The Currant Shed has long been a champion of all things Fleurieu. The Producers Series is an opportunity to bring passionate local farmers together to allow them to showcase their specific speciality and allow me the creativity to design and execute a one-off menu.”

Held in the main restaurant, guests will not only delight in the local ingredients but also see some of them from beyond the windows in The Currant Shed’s extensive vegetable gardens, freshly pruned vines, and beautiful Tahitian Lime orchards.
The Currant Shed prides itself on always sharing the ingredients and details of each dish to ensure a rounded tasting experience for its guests. This approach will be taken up a notch during The Producers Series lunch, with each Producer taking to the floor to share their story, including their history on the Fleurieu and the elements that come together to make their produce shine from inception to production.
