The Down Low On Dog Restrictions During COVID-19

Whether you’re walking the dog, in quarantine or self-isolating, here’s the rules around your fur baby.

Walkeees? (please read in a high voice)

It’s the question we really want to ask but were afraid of the answer….  The good news is that NO, there is no evidence that pets can spread COVID-19 to humans.

Having said that, pet coats should be treated like any other surface which means there is a very low risk of transmission if your animal has been touched by someone who is carrying the virus so give your hands a wash after touching your pet – like you’d do any other time.

Armed with this information, what’s the story about taking your Rover, Archie, Florence, Spot etc for a walk?

According to Health SA, it’s all good if you’re social distancing, just keep yourself and the dog 1.5m away from others and don’t let people pat him/her.

If you’re in self isolation/self quarantine, sorry no walkies for your dog – even with friends or family.  So that he/she doesn’t get too bored and start to chew the furniture or dig holes, perhaps toss it a ball in the backyard or teach it a few new tricks – it’ll give you something to share on your social media platforms!

Meanwhile if you’re looking to really be the ‘fur-parent’ of the year, check the pet-hamper treats available to order on line via Love an SA Local (big tip: make sure you label them pet treats – they look good enough to eat by ever-hungry people in iso looking for snacks)  www.loveasalocal.com.au
