The Duke of Brunswick Hotel has been an Adelaide staple since the 1960s and after new management in 2019, it has been staying true to its ethos – ‘The outside world doesn’t matter here’.
Recently, this all-inclusive, community-driven enterprise has expanded its reach and opened up the DOB on King William, offering delicious, gluten-free flavour combinations every day for the hungry masses.
Owner Simone Douglas wanted the space to be a reflection of what the Hotel offers but in a smaller, more casually accessible venue. The Duke of Brunswick is known for its gluten-free offering, you can expect that at the DOB on King William as well.
Opening its doors on 7 September, the DOB functions as a café during the day and (in the future), a function room at night, once a liquor license is obtained and guests will be able to enjoy some of DOB’s delicious drinks, such as their delicious Canadian club whiskey or their Two Bays pale ale and IPA gluten-free beer on tap.
“Whilst the menu offering is evolving we have certainly hit the ground running, trading Monday-Friday 7:30am-3:00pm, with that slated to extend to seven days once our liquor licence is granted” says Simone.
For any DOB Hotel patrons, there will be familiar faces in the café, as the same team behind the Duke of Brunswick Coeliacs will be taking care of you. The welcoming atmosphere coupled with the sunlight radiating into the space screams comfort and safety, true to their ethos.
What makes the DOB on King William different from surrounding cafés is that everything on the menu is gluten-free. Coeliacs disease affects approximately 1 in 100 Australians and this business has sourced producers to ensure every product is 100% gluten free, from the bread sourced by Adelaide’s own Riviera Bakery to the Canadian bacon on their popular waffle stack.
