Port Adelaide is getting ready to dance the night away to the infectious rhythms of Brazil, as The Encontro hits The Flour Shed at Hart’s Mill this Saturday night. This high-energy samba celebration is bringing together a community of samba bands from across Australia and New Zealand for one night of pure joy, and you’re invited to join the party.
Hosted by local legends SaSamba, The Encontro is all about community, rhythm, and party. Think bold drumlines, stunning dancers, and beats that’ll have your heart racing and your feet moving. This festival-style event kicks off at 6pm sharp, with SaSamba opening the night, so make sure to arrive on time and catch their powerful set.
Throughout the evening, bands will take the stage, performing for and with one another in a colourful cultural exchange that’s as much about connection as it is celebration. And trust us, when all those drums start going at once, you’ll want to start dancing.
Of course, no party is complete without good food and a cheeky drink, so there’ll be food trucks and a fully stocked bar to keep you fuelled and refreshed. Kids under 12 get in free, just don’t forget the earplugs it’s going to be a loud one.
The festivities don’t stop on Saturday either. The good vibes have been going all weekend, with dance and drumming workshops on Friday for anyone who wants to get in on the action. And on Sunday at Glenelg, the entire contingent of bands will perform together as the mighty Unidos da Cacatuas, a one-of-a-kind samba supergroup that needs to be seen and heard to be believed.
As for the Friday festivities, there’ll be workshops all day long for those wanting to get a deeper understanding of the art, and even give it a go themselves.
The streets of Adelaide have seen the Encontro festival around the place since 2018, but the 2025 edition is sure to be the biggest yet. It’s going to be loud, it’s going to be electric, and it’s going to be one unforgettable night.
