Three lucky customers who regularly shop at Adelaide’s finest supermarkets & Pasadena Shopping, have just received an epic Christmas present – a shiny new, denim blue Mercedes-Benz A180!
The three luxury cars were given away by Adelaide’s finest supermarkets in a very special competition which celebrated the businesses 70th anniversary.
The happy winners – Meghan, Clare and Lee – can now load their groceries into the boot of a brand-new Mercedes-Benz, thanks to Mr Nick!
The competition was a unique and generous way of marking Mr Nick’s business milestone as well as a way to say thank you to their loyal customers who continue to support Adelaide’s finest supermarkets.
The story behind these much-loved and multi-award-winning stores dates back to 1951, when a young Nick first arrived in Australia from Greece, which was a poverty-stricken country following WW2.
His family had endured great hardship including four years living in refugee camps in the Sahara during the occupation of Greece.
Once in Australia, Nick’s first family business venture was a café in the small town of Moulamein, NSW, which he ran with his father, Spero Snr, and brother, John.
This was the start of a long and successful career for this wise, inspiring and resilient man who overcame hardship to build a future for successive generations of his family.
For the past seven decades, Nick and the entire Chapley family, have continued to be involved in the hospitality and fresh food industry, pioneering many retail innovations and setting new benchmarks at their popular supermarkets.
As Mr Nick celebrates his 70th anniversary, his son and business director Spero, a visionary business leader, is also marking his own milestone of having 30-plus years involvement in this family venture.
Spero has been a driving force behind the evolution of Frewville and Pasadena Foodland which have both become so much more than supermarkets – with restaurants, bars, artisan bakeries, patisseries, flower markets and a welcoming vibe, all within the two stores.
“One of the biggest compliments we get, and there are many, is having customers say: ‘I don’t know what it is but this place is amazing and I feel emotionally connected’, that’s the greatest compliment we could ever receive”, says Spero.
He says that one strength of Adelaide’s finest supermarkets is the foundation of tradition and family values, which underpins everything the Chapley’s do.
This also gives Spero the courage and confidence to innovate, try new things or re-write the rulebook at times to make things even better.
