Struggling to narrow down which Fringe shows you will go and see? We don’t blame you, considering there are over 1000 to choose from in this year’s epic program! Well, as usual, we are here to make your lives a whole lot easier because we are lovely like that… So we have thrown together a list of the five 5 star (it has a nice ring to it don’t you think?) shows that you need to see this weekend!
He blew our minds (see the video here) with his amazing abilities. What abilities, we hear you ask… Well Colin is a ‘deductionist’. In English please? Basically he can deduce the inner mysteries of our mind and life through smell, body language and tone of voice. He is like the Sherlock Holmes of the mind. Truly unmissable (but you will have to be quick because the show ends 28 February). Check out our review here.
This is just one of those Fringe shows that we can never get enough of. It sits high on our list of must sees every year and we are never, ever disappointed! It isn’t award winning for no reason. With stunts that will leave you gasping, it is much more than just a show of acrobatics as you are lost in the story of the rag-tag, vaudevillian heroes and the amazing musical accompaniment. Get in quick because this bad boy ends on 28 February. Check out our review here.
If you are looking for a show that will have you laughing, singing along and wishing that you could do your makeup like the drag divas on stage, then this is where the searching ends… Olivier winning cabaret star Le Gateau Chocolat has returned to Adelaide, and along with one of Britain’s fave drag artists, Jonny Woo, they duet to some of the most famous musical tunes. Our fave had to be when they threw in some amazingness from Frozen. Just yes. Did we mention that they took out the Fringe Award for Best Cabaret (Round 2)… Yeah like we said, this is a must see! This one kicks on until 13 March which gives you plenty of time to see it more than once, because you will want to! See our review here.
A special mention also has to go to Michael Griffiths in COLE. He took out the Fringe Award for Best Cabaret (Round 1). We gave his amazing tribute to Cole Porter in which he tells amusing tales of his life between many of his most popular songs, a well deserved four stars. This show runs until 13 March. See our review here.
Paul Dabek, the magician genius, brings this show to The Speakeasy at Gluttony and it isn’t just for the kids. Adults will love his humour, with so much of it being aimed at the parents in the audience. So basically while the kids are entertained (they get to be a part of the show), the adults get to roll around on the floor with laughter, because that’s how funny this award winning magician is! This show runs until 14 March and you can check out our review here.
The dating game. We have all been there. And in this highly interactive show, physical theatre is combined with an honest and real narrative of a young woman discovering the world around her. Just a heads up, this show contains some sexual scenes, mild drug use and may contain a level of audience participation and improvisation. You have been warned! Set perfectly in the beautifully reminiscent and intimate setting of La Boheme, this show runs until 28 February, so get in quick! See our review here.
