The first question is: “Is this a good idea?” Probably would be the answer. Who doesn’t love convenience? And in terms of innovation, this is a massive step forward as a shopping experience.
So what’s the big deal? Well, South Australia’s largest retailer OTR have been hard at work in partnership with local studio The Distillery on a new App, now available, which has the potentially to really change how people interact with OTR outlets.
The new OTR App will see a number of exciting features rolled out over the coming six months. but the first available now is to be able to pre-order coffee from anywhere, at anytime, from any OTR. There is also a ‘Buy 4 Get 1 Free’ rewards feature across all their food, but we’re mostly about the coffee.
Michaela Webster, Chief Operating Officer for OTR said, “We are really excited to get this into market for our customers, it is a faster way to get barista made seriously good coffee without queuing and what’s better when you download the App your first coffee is free.”
Customers will be able to pre-order their coffee via the app and have it ready for collection when they arrive at their selected OTR store.
The project has been over 18 months in the making from the inception of the idea to building the app and then training 3000 staff across head office and all of our stores.
The Distillery’s General Manager, Sam Jeffries said this project is an example of how SA businesses can produce world-class digital platforms through collaboration.
“This project pushed the boundaries – not just the app itself, but with the retail systems integration and loyalty platform, we look forward to continuing to partner with OTR on future innovations,” said Sam Jeffries.
Looking ahead in the coming months there will be some new features being added to the App, which include pre-ordering and an innovative and compelling way to purchase fuel.
The OTR App can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store for both iOS and Android smart phone users. Give it a go and when it moves into the fuel arena, look out. We get the feeling this could be an even more massive innovation.
