Fans of Hew Parham may know him as the clown Schmoo but, in this droll, quirky outing, we meet Giovanni, whose ambition is life is to be an Italian waiter.
He's a frenetic, obsessive, rubbery figure that rattles of Italian gibberish at the speed of light yet, oddly enough, is easily understood.
The insanity of Giovanni, who performs to the tune of classical and other music, soon gives way to a calmer English speaking man, who divulges his past and the forces that lead him to pursue such a career.
Parham is a fascination and a delight, regardless of which character he plays. He's engaging, crazy, laugh-out-loud funny and, although the half hour duration is more suited to a children's show, the play itself is aimed at an adult audience.
Quirky pieces like this can easily miss the mark, but Parham hits his target with unforgettable speed and gusto.
