Todd Gray and Nic Krieg are 2009 graduates from Flinders University Drama Centre and they presented a self-devised and directed hour of comedy. The comedy, however, was reminiscent of the sort of humour that comes out of a Christmas Cracker, more likely induce a cringe than laughter. It seemed here and there to appeal to the younger members of the audience, but one could not help thinking that these were most probably family, friends and fellow graduates.
It is, unfortunately, all rather self-indulgent, not particularly funny and in serious need of a good comedic script writer and a strong director. It is not helped by the fact that most of the show is video, not live performance, and these need the hand of a competent editor.
There is plenty of energy and enthusiasm from the two young performers, but there is an absence of the sort of polished performance one might have expected from trained actors. One or two of the sketches had potential but were rather too long and could use tightening up to get the comic punch that is currently missing. Perhaps, in these early days after graduation, it would be better to stick with existing material that is known to work.
