As 2018 comes to an end, our lists of events and parties ramp up. Whether you’re into checking markets, wine and dining options, music festivals or cricket, December has it all. Here’s a round up of what’s on this month
December 6 until December 10 Adelaide Domain Test: Australia vs India From 6 Dec 2018 – 10 Dec 2018 Don’t miss out on seeing this Adelaide Domain test at the Adelaide Oval. Watch the new look Australian side led by Tim Paine as captain and Justin Langer as coach. Support the team as they re-build their world standing against number-one ranked India, led by captain Virat Kohli. High quality cricket will be on show in this match for the ages! Tickets here.
Now until December 22 –Emma Hack Stocktake Sale & Christmas Exhibition On Wednesdays to Saturdays from 11am until 3pm, come and check out some fabulous deals on art. Popping up with a fabulous Spring Clean sale of wondrous works from the past and not so past, Emma Hack is holding a STOCKTAKE SALE like no other and setting free the lovely gems of works that are hiding away in storage. Emma says, “Those of you that know, I price rise each year so there will be significant discounts worthy of a lookie-see. Its only the darlings printed in stock, while stock lasts. December 7 – Santa’s Wonderland Opening Day Santa’s Wonderland is the perfect event to bring the family into the Christmas spirit. In the Adelaide Showground there will be an amazing ice Wonderland, amusement rides, Candyland, and a Christmas activity trail. Santa’s Wonderland will also have their traditional family Christmas land including the beautiful snow queen, the lovely Mrs Christmas, and of course Santa himself, as well as three live Christmas stage shows, and the opportunity to meet and greet Christmas characters including Santa’s elves, Christmas fairies and toy soldiers. Attendees will also see wonderful pre-show entertainment, a red curtain reveal and winter snow falls. It begins on the 7th of December and will be open until Christmas eve (24th of December). Each ticket will be for one session, which goes for three hours.
December 7 – The Art Of Christmas @ Lot Fourteen Discover The Art of Christmas at Lot Fourteen, with a creative tree trail that is embedded amongst the Former Royal Adelaide Hospital site. Eight fabulous South Australian artists are using their creative talents and a sprinkle of Christmas magic to bring trees to life at Lot Fourteen this Christmas. Based on famous trails such as the Berlin bears, the Easter egg hunt in New York and Gromit Unleashed in Bristol, The Art of Christmas will transform Lot Fourteen into a Christmas wonderland. Each tree unique just like the artists themselves, will form the trail for you to follow. Get started by downloading the map and follow the trail around this unique and historic site. December 7 – Free Outdoor Movie Night – Home Alone From 8pm until 11pm at Glenunga Hub, you can enjoy a Free Outdoor Movie Night screening of the perfect christmas film, Home Alone. Bring your own picnic blankets and low chairs and settle in for four fantastic nights of entertainment with the whole family
December 7 – Christmas Hams with Richard Gunner & Feast Fine Foods Join Feast! Fine Foods owner Richard Gunner for a demonstration and tasting of all things Christmas Ham at the Adelaide Central Markets. Glazing one of their award-winning Free Range Heritage Breed Hams and showing off Richard’s exclusive ‘Signature’ Ham – The Old Fashioned, this will be a perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit. m
December 7 – Christmas Wreath Making Workshop at the Adelaide Central Market From 6pm to 8pm, you can head down to the Adelaide Central Market to learn all about making Christmas wreaths. This workshop will cover everything from designing, styling and constructing your own unique door/wall wreath using a variety of materials, including fresh foliage and holly provided by Central Market Flowers (stall 7), cinnamon sticks, dried fruits, pine cones and more. Following the workshop the wreath will dry naturally for use all season long. Tickets are $120 and can be purchased here.
December 8 – Launch of Lot.100 From 11am until 6pm, you are able to attend the official opening of Lot 100 – Adelaide Hills. Lot.100 is a collaboration site between Mismatch Brewing Company, The Hills Cider Company, Adelaide Hills Distillery and Ashton Valley Fresh. It is a new cellar door, restaurant and multipurpose venue. Tickets are $70 plus booking fee and include – bus to and from Adelaide (Stag public house), drink on arrival, roaming canapes. live music and a tour of Brewery, distillery and venue. December 8 – SummerSalt at Glenelg With sun, salt air, and sweet music to wash over the gorgeous Glenelg Beach, SummerSalt will create the perfect setting to dance the afternoon away with your friends on the sand or chill in the SummerSalt Lounge. Soak up some Summer sun under the spell of blue-chip Australian talent. Performers include Angus and Julia Stone, Meg Mac, Didirri, and Seaside. You won’t want to miss this summer fun! December 8 – The Big 80’s Party After a successful Australian tour, Leconfield Wines welcomes back “The Big 80’s Party” for a MASSIVE 2018 event! Jump in your time machine and join us among the vineyards at the iconic Leconfield Winery in McLaren Vale! December 8 – Ebenezer Night Markets Down Ebenezer Place (which is just off Rundle Street), you will find some cute night markets to explore. From 5:30pm until 10:30pm, you can enjoy some fashion, jewellery, delicious food and all sorts of unique artistic creations! Why not grab a drink at the Market Bar or sit and listen to the Live DJ play some groovy tunes while enjoying the amazing East End atmosphere? Sounds perfect!
December 8 – Leigh Street Christmas Markets @ Leigh Street, Adelaide, 1pm – 4pm. The Leigh Street Christmas Market are bringing together the best handmade and locally crafted/sourced Christmas gifts. Leigh Street Markets support South Australian brands and artisans, with the focus being on people that are putting their heart into what they make and creating an environment that is fun and quirky. Free entry and activities for the kids make this the perfect market for the whole family. There will be entertainers lined up for the live music segment with plenty of great gift opportunities being sourced from fantastic home based business. December 8 – West End Brewery Christmas Lights From December 8 until the 1st of January, you can head to the West End Brewery’s fabulous Christmas Lights! Australian Amusements will be there with bells on. You can expect kids rides, yummy show food, showbags and loads more! December 8 – Flashdance the Christmas Show at Morphettville Racecourse, Derby Pavilion The Flaming Sambucas will be busting out your favourite hits, while you enjoy a delicious three course dinner and premium five hour beverage package from the upper level of our Derby Pavilion against the stunning backdrop of the racecourse and foothills. December 8 – Twilight Christmas Market on O’Connell Street The annual Tynte Street Christmas Market is joining forces with the bespoke Handmade in Adelaide market for one big family-friendly fair featuring 60+stalls. There’ll be free kids entertainment, fantastic food and you can even drive home with a real Christmas Tree!
December 9 – Porch Sessions :: Feelds From 4pm to 9pm this Sunday, Adelaide’s very own, born and bred, The Porch Sessions, are back. The Porch Sessions will be held in a suburban garden in Brighton this time, complete with glorious live music from across the country, spectacular local foods and dreamy local bevvies. Roll out on a persian with your favourite mates, your dad or a hot date, and let’s get some porch bliss all up in the face. December 9 – Glenelg Sunset Markets Brought to you by Gilles at the Grounds, this is the ultimate beachside market. This market includes over 40+ amazing stalls, along with delicious local eats and live music on site. The Glenelg Sunset Markets bring local makers and creatives together all summer long.
December 12 – G.H Mumm Champagne Masterclass @ Atrium Lounge
InterContinental Adelaide is inviting lovers of champers to a G.H Mumm Masterclass that’s hosted by ambassador, Kaitlyn Tremblay. The Atrium Lounge will showcase four exquisite G.H Mumm champagnes which will be paired up with a decadent range of small plates. Champagne connoisseurs will want to jump on this since the event is selling at $95 pp and reservations are absolutely necessary.
December 12 – Women in Wine Dinner Series #3 – McLaren Vale Level One is delighted to announce the third event in a series of dinners celebrating the awesome women that work in the South Australian wine industry. On Wednesday 12th December, Corrina Wright (Oliver’s Taranga), Vanessa Altman (Switch Wines) and Gill Gordon-Smith (Fall From Grace) will be pouring their favourite wines, matched to some of our best-loved dishes from the Level One menu. After the dinner guests will have the opportunity to learn more about each winemaker, with a hosted Q&A panel session. Tickets are $75 per person and include 4 shared courses plus matched wine and are available now through Eventbrite.
December 13 (until Feb 7) – Music in the Square – Summer Sessions Time to get your summer-time groove on at Hindmarsh Square! From midday to 2pm on 13 December and 7 February the city will again fill with the live tunes of some of Adelaide’s best local, emerging talent.
December 14 – Adelaide Land Rover Polo in the City Enjoy fashion, glamour and excitement together with fine food & beverage from an award winning caterer, as the world’s largest polo series returns to Adelaide’s Victoria Park. More information here.
December 14 – Texas BBQ & Blues Sundowners Session This event will be held from 4pm to 8pm at Paxton Wine Bar. This is going to be a great evening with the guys from The Smoking Joint BBQ, leaders in South Australia for mouth watering, fire-grilled BBQ. Featuring: a selection of delicious BBQ treats (yes, including veggie options), Vintage American Delta Blues & Soul by The AMBUSH (a five piece local band), and of course, thirst quenching organic & biodynamic wines from Paxton (and kids beverages) and all topped off with an amazing venue, this is going to be a wonderful evening for all. It’s a FREE event, so just rock on up to the kick off of the Holiday Season.
December 14 – Semaphore Summer Twilight Markets The Twilight Markets are held on the beautiful Semaphore Foreshore Park on select Friday nights during December and January each year from 6-9pm. Each market is different with the organisers handpicking unique and distinctive stall holders. There are ethically produced items, handmade arts and crafts of every kind, vintage fashion, food vans and great coffee. Family-friendly with many stalls around, this sounds like the perfect way to spend a summer night.
December 14 (until December 16)- Hahndorf Christmas Village 2018 Explore the vibrant village of Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills as it decks the halls for Christmas in 2018! This is your chance to discover Hahndorf at the most magical time of year with last-minute gift shopping, restaurants and cafes available for tasty meals, cellar doors pouring delicious drinks and a whole lot of entertainment guaranteed to delight all ages. December 16 – Christmas Gift Market at Plant 4 Christmas Gift Market at Plant 4 Bowden will be held on Sunday December 16th 2018. Basically it’s a super cool ultimate market filled to the brim with local Adelaide makers who spin, weave, grow, create and construct excellent handmade gifts, perfect for boys and girls, Mum and Dad – pretty much anyone you love! (including yourself, because you deserve it). Even if Christmas is not your cup of tea, we’re sure you’ll enjoy the merriment of what’s sure to be a beautiful Summer’s day in Bowden. Entry is free.
December 16 – Gilles At The Grounds Providing Adelaide with a targeted fashion and design market and building and developing a platform for young designers to flourish, Gilles At The Grounds at Wayville is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon in summer.

December 21 – Thirsty Camel Cup Lawn Party It’s the Thirsty Camel Cup Lawn Party presented by Fresh 92.7! Forget your fascinators, forget your suits and prepare yourself for a relaxing celebration to end the year on a high! Watch the sun set over Morphettville while mingling with your mates, listening to live music and Fresh 92.7 DJ’s – while some friendly camel’s race their way down the straight. There will be a variety of food trucks offering delicious snacks & meals to purchase, as well as plenty of bar options where we’ll be serving up alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for purchase. December 25 – CHRISTMAS DAY
December 26 – Boxing Day Races From 10.30am until 6.30pm, head down to Morphettville Racecourse for the Boxing Day Races. The Boxing Day races is about coming together with friends and family. With multiple play areas and a myriad of food and beverage offerings, Morphettville promises to be a buzz trackside. This year there will also be a family picnic package – featuring a reserved, shaded picnic space next to the track, bottle of wine (for the big kids), antipasto box and two fruit boxes for just $60! Spaces are limited so book early to avoid missing out. Paw Patrol! will able be making an appearance, as will iconic children’s entertainer, Peter Combe and his ‘Belly Flop in a Pizza Band.’ More information can be found here.
December 28 – Beach Life Featuring The Kooks, Winston Surfshirt & more, Beach Life is an epic sunset festival by the water. It will be a shimmering oasis of music, food, fun and good times spent with friends old and new. Tickets can be purchased here.
December 28 – Wirra Wirra Summer Sessions (recurring event, until Jan 4) Wirra Wirra’s Summer Sessions are always a hit over the summer holidays. While the sun sets, Cellar Door stays open a little longer with live music, wine and delicious food from local food trucks. A chair or picnic blanket is a must to settle in and enjoy the evening.
December 31 – NEW YEARS EVE
December 31 – Elder Park and along the Adelaide Riverbank Join everyone for the City of Adelaide’s free New Year’s Eve party!This year brings another jam-packed program of live music, family entertainment, a Kids Zone and two spectacular firework displays presented by HomeStart. The historic Rotunda will be in all its glory, bathed in light and providing a focal point for the live music and on-stage performances, including Bollywood dancing!
