Launched last Thursday at The Stirling Hotel, Sidewood treated their guests to an intimate sneak peek of the 2014 award winning ‘Champion South Australian Cider’. It was a great night to be drinking cider on the new decks of the Stirling Hotel. Our taste buds were satisfied the moment we arrived as we were handed a glass of the fresh apple cider.

Nestled in the heart of the enchanting Adelaide Hills, Sidewood vineyard has been producing multiple award winning wines. Now, owners and winemakers Owen and Cassandra Inglis have taken the plunge to develop and manufacture hand–crafted premium apple cider.

An overly dapper grey pinstripe jacketed, black rim glassed, bearded man made the most astute and resonating quote of the night when he greeted his arriving friends; “THIS CIDER IS AWESOME” (and note, the capitalisation of the sentence was at the imagined shouting levels).

When posed questions about how Sidewood has grown in such a difficult industry and their successes, Owen Inglis said it was put down to two things; firstly, “uncompromising starts on the quality of the product that we deliver, making the best that we can with the tools that we have.” And secondly, and “most importantly, is about the people that work with us and support us. Without a great, excitable and enthusiastic team, we wouldn’t be able to get as far as we have with Sidewood in such a short time.”

Inglis provided the guests with wise words of advice in regards to the onset of heat; “enjoy the ciders… not only today, but throughout this long hot summer we’re going to be having.” Such guidance from a profound cider sage engages the senses into thinking; “you’re right, I will enjoy them!” And reveling in cider we shall, especially if they taste as crispy fresh as Sidewood Basket Pressed Apple Cider.
