A full-bodied six piece band backing four talented singers is a rare treat in a small fringe festival that primarily highlights smaller shows.

Aaron Nash and Friends is a fine young ensemble who turn hip hop tracks into jazz and blues numbers with great success.

There’s none finer however, than Nash himself on keyboards and Brendan Hill on trumpet who use their solos to soar. Tom Hart (drums) and Cas Critchington (guitar) also shine with brief solos with Ken Lee (saxophone) and Luke Ferguson (bass) completing this exceptionally competent band.

The choice of songs favours the musicians and singers alike, creating a concert of hits and some fresh interpretations of well known favourites.

Out front, Sam Cherry has the makings of a cool cat. With a fine voice and an old style attitude, he feels the music as much as he delivers it, giving him a stage presence far stronger than the three girls.

Alison Coppe, Lucy Potter and Alice Potter are great songstresses, but need either some basic choreography or a little attitude to come up to par. Despite warming up as the show progresses, they often look lost when not singing.  The style is in the stance as much as in the voice.

Even so, it’s an evening of great music and the premiere of a fresh new force on the live music scene.
