Tony’s achievements as a cricket player, commentator and media personality are internationally renowned. What is less well-known is that Tony lived with epilepsy, and dedicated much of his life to raising awareness of the condition and campaigning to overcome its stigma.

Today, just two years after his untimely death, Epilepsy Action Australia is launching a new national program, My Epilepsy Key, inspired by the way Tony successfully managed his epilepsy to lead a highly productive and optimal life.

Each year Tony Greig would welcome us to another summer of cricket by jamming his hotel key into the ground for his iconic pitch report. As a nod to this tradition, My Epilepsy Key is a USB in the shape of a key; it provides access to information, interactive resources and education that will help support people impacted by epilepsy to effectively self-manage their condition.

Vivian Greig, Tony’s wife says, “Tony lived with epilepsy from the age of 12 but he never let his condition limit him. He had a highly successful career and lived life to the fullest in every way. The key to Tony’s success was the careful self-management of his condition.

“Tony’s mission was to give others with epilepsy the chance to live the best life possible. By donating funds to the My Epilepsy Key program, Australia can help bring Tony’s vision to life.”

It is estimated that 800,000 people in Australia will be diagnosed with epilepsy at some stage in their lifetime; 50% of those diagnosed with epilepsy are children or adolescents.

Epilepsy Action Australia’s goal is to provide one key to every person or family affected by epilepsy in the country. To do so, it needs to raise one million dollars for the My Epilepsy Key program, which will help change the lives of hundreds of thousands of people living with epilepsy. Donations can be made at www.epilepsykey.org.au.
