If you need tunes to play at your upcoming Coronation Party, the incoming King has you covered.

Released by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the 27-song playlist curated on behalf of the Monarch aims to inspire celebrations across the globe as they get ready to celebrate King Charles’s Coronation on the 6th of May.

Containing artists from across the Commonwealth, the upbeat offering has a strong message of unity, looking to the future and upholding traditions.

Starting off with The Beatles ‘Come Together’, there is nothing subliminal about the choice to kick off with this iconic track. Celebrating British royalty with British music royalty may seem like an easy choice, but the choice of track is what drives home the underlying message.

Never missing a chance to try and be relatable, any celebration for a dad, no matter who he is, has to include classic tracks like ‘Daddy Cool’ by Boney M and artists like Electric Light Orchestra, Pet Shop Boys, The Kinks and The Who. Perhaps some of King Charles’s personal favourites?

Of course, there cannot be a playlist for UK Royalty that doesn’t include David Bowie and Queen. The choice of tracks like Just Dance and We Are the Champions, adding to the celebratory atmosphere. Along with 80’s icons Madness and Spandau Ballet, the rich history of British music is well-represented.

Don’t worry, this is an intergeneration playlist so there are plenty of offerings for the younger crowd. UK favourites Harry Styles, Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding and George Ezra made the list, along with the rediscovered Kate Bush. Who can forget the chokehold that Running Up That Hill had on TikTok last year?

Speaking of TikTok, Sam Ryder is on the playlist too.

Millennials, don’t worry, you have not been left out of the DCMS’ thoughts. Spice Girls, Take That and Coldplay all have tracks featured, so you can sing ‘Say You’ll Be There’ at the top of your lungs. More of a rock fan? Don’t worry, Elbow also is featured.

Even though no Australian artists have been featured, other artists from across the Commonwealth have made the cut. The charming Michael Bublé and the iconic Grace Jones are included. Scottish gospel sensation Emeli Sande also made the list with her track ‘Starlight’.

We all know that our Nan’s will be gearing up to celebrate the Coronation, so you know that Tom Jones is on there. Rod Stewart and his collaboration with Jeff Beck, ‘People Get Ready’ is also featured.

Finishing off the playlist, bookending with ‘Come Together’ is the track ‘King’ by British popstar Olly Alexander’s solo project Years & Years.

Given the Royal Family Seal of approval, the playlist is up on Spotify now. Just in time to get inspired for all the Coronation celebrations.
