After a pizza by the ocean? Kangaroo Island cult-classic Sorrento’s Pizzeria reopened as The Kiosk Penneshaw on December 30, 2022.
The fresh coat of paint, new name and complete overhaul of this K.I. classic has locals to the seafront store eager to grab a bite of that delicious doughy dish. The team at Penneshaw have been refitting the interior with new tables, chairs and making the space an entirely new experience.
The Kiosk Penneshaw has risen from Sorrento’s legacy like a phoenix, or like a saucy base in a wood-oven. In re-opening, The Kiosk crew have advertised a number of new positions such as chefs, bar staff, supervisors and waiting staff.
Breakfast is booming from 7am to 10:30am, 7 days a week, with South Australian family-owned roastery, De Groot Coffee Co, providing boutique beans for beachside baristas.
De Groot Coffee Co was started by Trevor de Groot and Bernadette Stack in 2008 on Magill Road in Adelaide, from a shed behind the coffee house Espresso Royale as a means of supplying the store with fresh organic beans.
In 2014, Trevor and Bernadette moved to the south coast and launched an organic cellar door in Port Elliot. It’s the sort of coffee that would go great with the loaded waffles listed on the kiosk menu, which are stacked with Nutella, marshmallows, strawberries and vanilla ice-cream. What a way to start your day, right?!
The Kiosk is located on North Terrace (no, not that North Terrace) near Christmas Cove and faces the water bridging Kangaroo Island and the rest of South Australia. Wander by the waves crashing against the iconic SA tourist retreat and treat yourself.
If you’re açaí-t-seer, you can snatch the signature Kiosk Wellness Bowl, which contains blended açaí and berries served with toasted granola and coconut, topped with Kangaroo Island honey.
