Land Rover Polo in the City, the must-attend polo event of the Australian summer calendar, is set to return in style this year with thrilling spectator matches around the country.
After kicking off in Sydney in November, Land Rover Polo in the City will spring up for 1-day events in picturesque parklands in the heart of Australia’s major cities including Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide (dates below).
This year will see the Australians take on Hawaii, led by the international polo superstar and heartthrob, Nano Gracida. Hailing form the famous Gracida polo dynasty, which has produced more of the world’s top players than any other, Nano will spend two months in Australia to enthral audiences with his polo skills and Hollywood good looks, across the entire series.
Guests of Land Rover Polo in the City, whether enjoying the day from the ticketed Waikiki Polo Lounge or sipping Pommery champagne in ‘invite only’ Corporate and VIP marquees, will have the chance to witness local and international professional polo players compete for the World Series Polo title.
With DJ entertainment throughout the day, fine food and drinks and a colourful Fashion on the Field competition, the atmosphere off-field will be as lively as on. Adding to the unforgettable experience will be ‘time honoured’ polo traditions such as the men and women’s Dash (a 50-metre foot race) and the Divot Stomp, open to all that attend.
In a first, this year’s events will showcase a new entertaining space, the Maui Polo Club, created in celebration of the clash between Australia and Hawaii. Inspired by Maui’s art deco era, the Maui Polo Club offers a superior setting to enjoy gourmet lunches, sip the finest Hawaiian cocktails and cheer on the Australian team.
For some the polo is just the beginning with the main event kicking off at the official after party, hosted by The Hilton Adelaide, for the tenth year running.
Land Rover Polo in the City is a longstanding part of the Urban Polo circuit – the largest national polo series in the world. Established in 2005, the award-winning ‘Polo in the City’ event series has directly contributed over $1 million to the Australian polo industry over a decade ($488,219.74 in the last 6 years alone).
The series was again a finalist in the ‘Best Sporting Event’ category of the Australian Event Awards, for the second consecutive year in a row, firmly cementing itself as Australian market leader within the premium and luxury space, and has this year received a 7 year grant from the Government, via Austrade, to export this unique format of polo, and the Urban Polo™ brand, internationally.
Urban Polo™ Founder, Janek Gazecki, is pleased to bring a one-of-a-kind experience back to the city, encouraging all Australians to embrace this unique code of polo.
“This year’s events will again showcase Australia’s best polo talent as well as a few international surprises, striking fashion, fast-paced sporting action and world-class entertainment. We offer a chic, relaxed and boutique inner-city backdrop to a fabulous day out, with our guests able to get up close to the game, players and stunning polo horses,” said Gazecki.
“In partnership with our major sponsor Land Rover for 8 years, Land Rover Polo in the City continues to grow. Already for the 2019 series, we have seen corporate hospitality spaces across all cities sell out, acquired by some of Australian’s leading businesses – a testament to the reputation of the event and hard work of the Urban Polo Association.”
The team behind Land Rover Polo in the Cityis delighted to present the 2019 series and is confident that, together with its sponsors including Land Rover, Pommery, Bird in Hand, Hilton, Fox Real Estate, Brooksfield, Hawaiian Airlines, Stefan Diamonds, Athletes Foot and IMEI, this year’s events will again be a highlight of the summer social calendar.
