Fortunately for SA, we have so many venues that hold such a special place in our hearts. The iconic Largs Pier Hotel is one of those venues as it celebrates its 140th anniversary on November 6.
The birthday celebration will include a myriad of beer tastings, delicious food specials and live DJ entertainment as well as free kids’ face painting bringing everyone together for such a joyous occasion.
Since it’s such a huge milestone, the Largs Pier Hotel has decided to launch a limited-edition collaboration beer with legendary locals Pirate Life Brewing. The beer is humbly named ‘140 years Lager’.

The birthday celebration will be the first time you will be able to try the exclusive release which will be available at the Largs Bar & Pier Restaurant as well as available to take home via the hotel’s drive-thru bottle-shop.

Known for its classic take on generous pub fare, The Largs Pier Hotel has favourites like its massive Drinkers Platter, King George Whiting, Crackling Pork Belly and Wood Oven Pizzas.
However, the food and beverage options aren’t the only offerings at the venue. The Largs Pier Hotel is known for being multi-award winners on a national and state level for its heritage accommodation, motel and apartment accommodation.

Established in 1882, the Largs Pier has long been an imposing landmark overlooking the Lefevre Peninsula.
Over the years, the Largs Pier Hotel has entered icon status with its rich history. Built by the Largs Bay Land and Investment Company in 1882, the Largs Pier Hotel’s rich history, included the unusual honour of being the country’s first drive-thru bottle shop in 1953.
During the 70s and 80s the hotel began to establish its reputation as an important Aussie music icon, with Cold Chisel, AC/DC, The Little River Band and The Angels all playing at the hotel during the early days of their careers. Not to brag but Bon Scott, (who later became the lead singer of AC/DC) even met his wife at the Largs after a gig in 1971.
Jimmy Barnes even wrote and launched the song ‘Largs Pier Hotel’ at the venue in 2011. With such a hallowed connection to SA, it’s no wonder that the hotel has stood the test of time.
Its three-story bluestone structure with stuccoed arcades on all levels, elegant archways adorned by eagles with outstretched wings and its grand staircase, are all symbols of elegant craftsmanship from a bygone era.
But most important is the welcoming smile and shake of the hand, because in the words of W.B. Yeats “there are no strangers here; only friends you haven’t met yet”.
So why not make friends from strangers and attend a slice of history as the Largs Pier Hotel celebrates 140 years?
