The Lights of Lobethal festival is STILL ON, despite community confusion following some residents choosing to switch off their lights.

Last night, the owners of one of Lobethal’s iconically light-filled houses, Bill and Peg’s announced that they would be turning-off their home’s lights due to concerns around the spread of Covid-19.

“We have made the difficult decision to close our Christmas Lane Lights Display due to our concerns about COVID-19″, the Christmas Lane couple said in a statement.

“Due to being restricted to only 30 visitors at a time, many are queuing up for over an hour to obtain entry”

“We feel that with all the new cases being reported each day, it would be irresponsible to remain open”

“We will continue to monitor the situation, but at this stage, it is unlikely that we would reopen this year. We wish all our followers a SAFE and MERRY CHRISTMAS”.

Their number 5 Christmas Lane property has long-offered visitors a ‘walk-in and explore’ type Christmas display, and has been a big attraction of the annual event.

The announcement that their lights would remain off this year sent many into a spiral, with people assuming that the Lobethal lights had been cancelled entirely.

However in a statement released today, The Lights of Lobethal Festival said that they’d “like to reassure everybody that the lights festival will continue and its expected the local residents (hundreds of homes, street after street in Lobethal) will continue to have their lights on till 31st December”.

“The Lights of Lobethal committee are confident that visitors will be able to enjoy a safe visit to the town from the comfort and security of their own cars as 99% of displays can be seen from your own car without the need to walk or queue in person.”

They further announce that the local Lobethal Christmas Pageant on Thursday 23rd December would be cancelled, due to the high levels of uncertainty surrounding the current Covid situation.

“Father Christmas is still scheduled to make a guest appearance around the Lobethal town, so please keep your eyes open for him”, the Committee said.

The Lights of Lobethal Festival will run up until December 31st, 2021.
