Throughout the month of July, Raising Literacy Australia is hosting The Little Big Book Swap fundraising event across South Australia to encourage families to share books together and sponsor libraries.

The program aims to make books and resources available to vulnerable families through outreach programs, and to encourage young people and adults alike to read by swapping books they no longer need.

The idea is simple. By registering a Little Big Book Swap event, participants can download a bunch of resources to help them organise and promote it. On the day of the event, organisers encourage their community, club, workplace or school to bring along a book to swap with someone else. Every swap costs a gold coin donation and the money is passed on to Raising Literacy Australia, a registered charity.

Since the Swap first ran in 2016, 10 new community libraries have been donated to across South Australia with each library receiving 350 new picture and board books, a book case and a folder of play-based learning activities.

Everyone is welcomed to participate, regardless of age or location. Find out more at www.thelittlebigbookclub.com.au/bookswap.
