This September, The Louise in the Barossa Valley is teaming up with Duncan Welgemoed, the acclaimed chef behind Adelaide’s iconic Africola and Africola Canteen, for a very special one-night-only event. Set in The Louise’s elegant Contour event space, Duncan and the team are bringing attendees a high-calibre dining experience combining his distinctive cooking with fabulous Barossa wines.
Duncan has shaped his reputation through his ever-popular Africola. Famed for its take on South African flavours and innovative dishes, his style is characterised by the fearless use of spices, an emphasis on fire-driven techniques, and the use of fresh produce. He is bringing that boldness to The Louise, giving guests a chance to enjoy a menu shaped by Duncan’s heritage and love for layered, spicy flavours.
For this exclusive dinner, Duncan has crafted a menu that highlights Gazander oysters with a Bloody Mary‑infused hot sauce, peri peri chicken hearts, and spiced lamb shoulder with devilled mint. Plus, smoked pumpkin with tahini cream and boom chakalaka, this is bound to be unforgettable. The culinary journey finishes with an Amaro flan, paired with artisan sourdough and homemade churned butter.

“Duncan’s fearless approach to flavour and storytelling through food aligns perfectly with our passion for produce-driven dining experiences. This one-night-only event marks the beginning of exciting collaborations and events at The Louise, with more to come,” she added.
The event will come in two seatings, with the first at 5:45pm for a 6pm start, and the second at 8:15 pm for an 8:30 pm start. At $175 per person, the dinner includes local wine pairings.
