On the banks of the Murray River, where New South Wales meets Victoria, Moama has officially stepped into a new era of tourism with the launch of Wildergreen, a first-of-its-kind lifestyle precinct redefining what travellers can expect from a regional escape. We were invited to experience this destination, and while we love SA, we know that our readers also love to travel – so here’s what we discovered.
More than a venue, Wildergreen is the new heart of Moama. It’s a sanctuary on the Murray where dining, play, nature and design come together to create an unforgettable experience for families, friends, and weekend travellers. With the Murray region experiencing a powerful resurgence after the 2022 floods, the timing couldn’t be better.
If you’re planning your next road trip, long weekend or family getaway, Wildergreen is now the place to start.

Just two and a half hours from Melbourne and a seven-hour drive from Adelaide, Wildergreen is positioned to become one of the Murray River’s most significant tourism drawcards. But the precinct is also a gateway, providing an invitation to explore everything the region has to offer.
Begin your adventure with Green Pedal’s guided e-bike tours, led by local expert David. These tours offer a 360-degree view of the area’s natural beauty, wildlife and rich history. Ride across bridges that link one state to another and immerse yourself in the calm of riverside bushland.
As the day winds down, take to the Murray by water. Magic Murray Executive, a luxury houseboat featuring an upper-deck spa and dining room, allows travellers to explore the river in total comfort. No boat licence is required. Just take the wheel with guidance from the experienced team and let the river lead you through some of Echuca–Moama’s most striking landscapes.
Food lovers will enjoy local food thanks to Hammond Providore. Michelle and her team deliver catering experiences inspired by the region’s growers and producers. From take-home meals and cheese boxes perfect for a riverbank picnic, to private onboard dining for those exploring by boat. Drop into Hammond Providore for your morning chai latte and enjoy the fresh-out-of-the-oven berry muffins and frittata.

The Quest Echuca provides apartment options for a couple’s weekend away, or adjoining rooms for family getaways. Just metres away from the redgums of the Murray and a short stroll down to the main street of Echuca – an ease to explore the pubs, locally run emporiums and buildings holding over 150 years of river history. Take a walk through the nearby Horseshoe Lagoon Nature Reserve for a billabong bird watching experience where boardwalks take you from scrubland to riverbank.
Designed as a multi-experience precinct, Wildergreen encourages visitors to immerse themselves in nature, explore the community and appreciate the significance of one of Australia’s most important river systems.
Moama Bowling Club CEO Paul Barnes said, “Wildergreen isn’t just a venue — it’s a sanctuary. A place where design meets nature, where families and friends can gather, and where every season tells a new story. We wanted to build something the community can be proud of and something that puts Echuca–Moama firmly on the map.”
Built by local craftspeople and tradespeople, Wildergreen has been lovingly created as a space for everyone. At the centre of the precinct is Embr, a culinary experience powered by fire, fusion and local ingredients. Led by Sardinian-born Chef Daniel Girau, Embr brings soulful, seasonal Italian cooking to the Murray. Expect wood-fired Neapolitan-style pizzas, daily handmade pasta and share plates designed for long lunches, paired with local wines and summer spritzes.

One of Wildergreen’s greatest strengths is its appeal to families. The precinct’s in-house child-minding service (for children aged 5 and above) allows parents to extend their long lunches without worry.
For younger visitors, Treehouse – an indoor eco-play space provides hours of discovery through sensory zones, natural textures, imaginative play and nature learning. Step outside and The Playground offers leafy paths, hideouts for curious kids, open lawns and natural play areas. It is the perfect setting for families to relax and enjoy the day.
Seasonal gardens, Australian natives and meandering paths create an environment ideal for slow afternoons, events and outdoor experiences. All shaped by the importance of the river that runs beside it.

From Wildergreen, travellers can easily explore the historic Echuca Wharf precinct, paddle steamers, river cruises, boutique wine bars, distilleries and scenic walking and cycling trails. The region’s iconic red gums, wetlands and sweeping bushland paint a uniquely Australian picture.
Tourism along the Murray River is essential not only for New South Wales and Victoria, but also for the South Australian communities downstream that rely on a thriving river-based economy. Visiting places like Moama supports local jobs, growers, makers and families, while also celebrating the lifeblood that connects three states.
Wildergreen officially opened on 20 November 2025.
Pack the car, grab the kids, bring your friends and discover the precinct destined to become the Murray’s most talked-about destination.
