The new $565K Woodcroft Dog Park is open and already getting tails wagging!

The City of Onkaparinga has officially opened its fourth dedicated dog park at Hurtle John Potter Reserve in Woodcroft.

The City of Onkaparinga has officially opened its fourth dedicated dog park at Hurtle John Potter Reserve in Woodcroft, and it’s everything the community and their furry friends have been waiting for. The $565,000 park, which opened over the weekend, is designed to give locals and their pups a spacious, safe, and fun place to play, exercise, and, of course, sniff around.

Located on the corner of Bains Road and Investigator Drive, the new Woodcroft Dog Park spans 4300 square metres and features a range of amenities designed with community input. There’s a large open area for ball chasing and general play, plus an agility section with weave poles, a tunnel, a bridge, an A-frame, and a sit-stay platform.

Other facilities include a toilet block, drinking fountain with a dog bowl, shelter, park furniture, landscaping, irrigation, and footpaths, so the park is both convenient and comfortable.

“Not only are 10 kilometres of our 31-kilometre coastline, and most of our parks and reserves, available for off-leash exercise, but we also now have our fourth dedicated dog park here at Woodcroft’s Hurtle John Potter Reserve,” City of Onkaparinga Mayor Moira Were said.

“We know how important exercise and socialising is for dogs and people alike, and it’s really pleasing to see these new facilities added to the already much-loved reserve and its skate park and playground.

“Judging from the excitement we’ve seen about the dog park and toilets from residents these past few months, this place is going to a focal point for the community, helping them to stay healthy, active and connected for many for years to come.”

The park was made possible by a $500,000 state government grant, part of an election promise from Nat Cook MP (Member for Hurtle Vale). It’s development followed community feedback gathered in 2023 to make sure it met local needs and preferences.

The new dog park joins other popular spots, including Dinton Farm Reserve at Huntfield Heights, Minkarra Park at Aberfoyle Park, and Symonds Reserve at Aldinga Beach, and is sure to be yet another popular addition to the area.
