Meet Matt Agnew. You probably don’t know him now, but chances are you know him very well later this year.

Meet Matt Agnew. You probably don’t know him now, but chances are you’ll know him very well later this year.

The astrophysicist is Australia’s newest Bachelor!

He’s travelled the world following his passion for space, working on his PhD and trying to locate Earth 2.0. While his search for other planets has taken him as far as Berlin, Sweden and Buenos Aires, his search for true love has now brought him home to Melbourne.

Raised in Adelaide and Perth, Matt’s a fan of AFL and also enjoys getting outside for a hike and hitting the gym. This gregarious 31-year-old is also a secret weapon in the kitchen and even dabbles in a bit of yoga.

One of four kids, Matt has had outstanding relationship role models in his parents who have been happily married for over 30 years.

In regards to love, Matt’s parents’ advice has always been; “You’ve got to give it a go, give it a chance and put your heart out there.” Well, he’s certainly doing that now.

After suiting up to be groomsman several times, Matt said: “Seeing my mates finding their partners, tying the knot and buzzing with laughter and love together, I realise I want that!”

Years of living abroad proved an exciting adventure for this smiley Bachelor, but now he’s back in Oz, a proud new homeowner and ready for the next phase in his life.

Matt is ready for that special someone to come along and he’s after the type of love that hits you like a thunderbolt, but doesn’t fizzle out. Sparks are important, but he’s also looking for a genuine woman who enjoys having a laugh, doesn’t take herself too seriously and has a real passion for life.

On becoming the Bachelor, Matt said: “I’ve got a real ‘do it once, do it right’ mentality so I’ll be making sure I throw myself into it, be vulnerable and enjoy what comes from that.

“It may be an unorthodox way to meet someone, but I think it’ll be a sensational experience and make for a cracking ‘how we met’ story!”

Network 10’s Hilary Innes, said: “Matt brings spades of old school romance back to The Bachelor. He’s a bachelor with natural charm and intelligence but with a definite twinkle in his eye.

“Matt will be a breath of fresh air to be around. He comes from such an interesting and different world but is still a humble and down to earth Aussie man who really just wants to find the love of his life.”

The seventh season of The Bachelor Australia will follow Matt as he endeavours to find his star-crossed lover amongst a group of hopeful Bachelorettes.

The season has just begun filming and will air later this year.
