This year I’m turning 40 and the panic is real. Not because I feel like I should look a certain way, or have achieved certain things, but because I’ve realised that I haven’t really looked after myself property, EVER. I don’t use make up remover, I don’t wash my face before bed, I hardly ever floss, I’ve only just started my first proper health kick, and my skin has been the last thing on my mind. So when I had the opportunity to try out ZWave Pro for this article, I volunteered faster than the MAFS stars jumped into their doomed marriages.
ZWave Pro is everything I’d hoped it would be, and more.
To be honest, what I’m enjoying the most about this treatment, is the treatment itself. It’s like going for a massage. It’s relaxing, it’s great for the tightness in my muscles (which are unaccustomed to the exercise I’m now subjecting them to), and it’s downtime, so I can just switch off and focus on me for a moment.
But I’m getting ahead of myself.
What exactly is ZWave Pro?
It’s a cellulite reduction and skin tightening treatment that’s recently been introduced at Burnside Cosmetic at Burnside Village. Its also great for stretch marks.
For someone who isn’t across all the new technology out there, like myself, it seems like magic. There’s a smooth metal wand that delivers the magic, and for 3-4 minutes, it just glides around on the area of skin you’re treating – like your stomach, legs, butt etc. For me, it’s the back of my thighs so I just lay on my stomach on the treatment table, and flick through Instagram while it’s done.
The cute little matching shorts and top that I wear while the treatment is done, makes me feel like I’m in a day spa. In fact, the whole clinic makes me feel like I’m in a day spa. It’s no wonder their business drives people in primarily through word of mouth.
Sorry, I got off track again. Back to the treatment.
While the wand glides over my less-than-cared-for-thighs (why didn’t I start working on them sooner?), it sends tiny pulses into my skin, which ultimately helps reduce the appearance of cellulite. Magic right? It feels like a tiny zap, but as I said earlier, it doesn’t hurt. In fact, it’s actually relaxing, and more like some sort of technological massage.
What’s happening, is the ZWave Pro uses radial pulse technology that delivers acoustic shockwaves into the skin, which is scientifically proved to have a large impact on collagen structure and the skin connective tissue, improving blood circulation.
It stimulates collagen formation, while the skin becomes more elastic and its firmness is visible after only a few treatments.
ZWave can also significantly improve skin firmness, skin elasticity and collagen regeneration.
Treatment is generally completed in around six to ten sessions but some people notice visible results after two to three sessions.
Me? I’m doing around 10-12 sessions, and have definitely noticed a marked improvement in my skin.
The other reason I’m happy to talk about this? Both Dr Chris Koulos, and Claire Koulos, who run Burnside Cosmetic, are not only warm, welcoming people, but they’re extremely qualified in all the treatments they deliver. You really do feel like you’re in safe hands, because you are. Too often clinics or salons have people working on your face, skin and body, who aren’t medically qualified, and to be honest, it can be frightening. I’m not sure about you, but I don’t bounce back like I used to, so I’m not in a head space where I’m open to things going wrong. I’m all about trusting my body to the most experienced, qualified people only. And why wouldn’t you.
So a few months out from my 40th, and I’m really feeling like I’ve made some positive changes across the board.
I’ve been drinking 2 litres of water a day, and exercising too, which all helps too, but for the first time in pretty much my entire adult life, I’m looking forward to wearing shorts on my upcoming Fiji holiday, and proudly owning ‘being’ 40.
