The Parade’s Gearing Up For Annual TDU Street Party

Legions of cycling fans will converge on The Parade, Norwood on Thursday 18 and Friday 19 January 2018 as they soak up the atmosphere of the 2018 Santos Tour Down Under and Norwood on Tour.

The ‘Norwood on Tour’ Street Party, held on the eve of the Bupa Stage 4 Start of the Santos Tour Down Under, is a free event suitable for all the family. Incorporating the official 2018 Santos Tour Down Under Bupa Challenge Tour and Bupa Stage 4 Start, Norwood on Tour also features an exciting outdoor experience showcasing some of finest local food, wine and beverage offerings, live music and children’s entertainment.

Bring your friends and family to soak up the electrifying atmosphere of the ‘Norwood on Tour’ Street Party! This free family event features live music, sumptuous food and wine, live performances and entertainment for all ages.

Main stage entertainment:
5.20pm & 6.10pm – Brad Lee
7.00pm – Georgia Carey
8.00pm – Eric Santucci and The Revue
9.00pm – The Cast Band

On Friday, the Bupa Challenge Tour and Bupa Stage 4 kicks off from The Parade, with the mass-participation ride kicking off from 6:00am and the professional cyclists taking off from 11:30am. City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters Mayor, Robert Bria, said it was fitting that Norwood would once again play a key role in Australia’s premier cycling event.

“Home to our State’s first velodrome, as well as the oldest cycling club in the Southern Hemisphere, Norwood has a long and well-deserved reputation as the ‘home of cycling’ in South Australia. The Council is delighted to have again been selected to host to the Bupa Challenge Tour and the Bupa Stage 4 Start of the 2018 Santos Tour Down Under,” said Mayor Bria.

Bupa Stage 4 Start

Friday 19 January, 10.30am

See international cycling heroes kick off Bupa Stage 4 from The Parade at 11.30am, taking on 128.2 kilometres of grueling bitumen and hill climbs including the famous Norton Summit for the Subaru King of the Mountain before an uphill finish in Uraidla.

Temporary Road Closures:
Thursday 18 January 2018 – 9.00am to 2.00am
The Parade (northern and southern carriageways) from George Street to Edward Street (not
including intersections)

Friday 19 January 2018 – 2.00am to 3.00pm
The Parade (northern and southern carriageways): from Osmond Terrace to Portrush Road  George Street: from The Parade to Webbe Street
Edward Street: from The Parade to the entrance of Coles/Café Bravo car parks.

During the above road closures, west bound traffic and bus services will be diverted along Portrush Road, Magill Road and Osmond Terrace, back down The Parade, with the reverse for East bound traffic. Some parking restrictions will also be in place.
