Spring has sprung and Adelaide’s newest brunch destination is quite literally Bloom-ing.

From the team behind Peter Rabbit on Hindley Street, Bloom is a distinctive venue with a spacious outdoor setting and unsuspecting views of the ghostly gums along the River Torrens (Karrawirra Parri).

Co-owner Jack Nelligan says the business partners (original Peter Rabbit owners Jack, James McIntyre and Dan Morton, along with manager James Lambert and head chef Jackson Bennett) stumbled across an abandoned old tram barn in Thebarton while searching for a spot for a second venture.

“We wanted to find a venue first and create a place that really focuses on the venue as a destination, rather than just food, coffee and alcohol,” Jack says.

Opening on September 10, Bloom has been a long time coming after signing the lease in 2018.

The space has undergone a total transformation, opening-up the historic building to natural light and fitting their signature open fire pit.

Outside has been landscaped, and they’ve added a purpose-designed pavilion, which will be available exclusively for functions including weddings.

While there are similarities with Peter Rabbit – a big focus on quality 1645 coffee and cult favourite Japanese ramen on the menu – Jack describes Bloom as a more high-end offering with refined table service to match.

The seasonal, all-day menu has been created to be an experience with a signature twist; an element of every dish has been designed to be cooked over fire.

“We want to encourage people to spend more time over brunch and lunch and share food,” Jack explained.

“It’s definitely unique. There are not a lot of places like this in Adelaide in terms of size and being able to cook over wood fire.”

The venue can seat 70 people indoors and outdoors, and can cater for up to 250 people for functions in the exclusive outdoor pavilion (they’ve already booked 15 weddings before opening).

You’ll find Bloom at 38 Winwood St, Thebarton behind the West End Brewery. And while yes, they will be serving red tins, the menu also features a selection six beers on tap and quality South Australian wines.

Bloom is open for brunch and lunch on Wednesday to Sunday from September 10.
