The Pre-Holiday Checklist You Can’t Leave Home Without

Holidays – yay. Bring them on. But wait – there are just a few things to do before you jump in the car, or on the plane.

Holidays – yay. Bring them on. But wait – there are just a few things to do before you jump in the car, or on the plane. Leaving everything at home safe and ticking along, requires a few chores to be completed before you down that first glass of vino, beer or bubbles.

We enlisted the help from the organised pros at Quintillion Concierge to ensure that all remains well and good while you’re away so that you can truly relax in peace on your well-deserved break.

  • Cancel newspapers or anything else you get delivered. Anything left on the driveway and in letterboxes are a dead giveaway to potential burglars. Don’t give them a thumbs up.
  • Tell neighbours you are going away – especially if they the vigilant types. Alert neighbours are the best sort of neighbours to have when you on holidays. You know you have ‘on the ground’ security systems in place.
  • As well as friendly neighbours on the lookout, get a friend/family member to check the house regularly, to check for any broken pipes. Similarly get them to check fridge and freezers. If there has been a power failure, the contents of your fridge/freezer could be at risk.
  • Ensure that mail is collected regularly or get the post office to hold your mail.
  • Don’t forget pets. Get friends or family to look after them or book them into kennels or catteries. Friends. They need a holiday too!!!
  • What about your precious pot plants? If they are the precious possum variety and won’t survive your absence without some TLC, arrange for someone to at least come in give them some water.
  • The worst thing about coming home from a holiday is having to and cook a meal. Give yourself a break from this task and freeze a meal before you go. You will love yourself on your return.
  • Power failures or disruptions can play havoc with computers. To ensure all your work is safe and sound, back up your computer and put the backup somewhere safe like a friend or family’s home.

On the day you leave, make sure all your appliances are unplugged and turned off.

One last thing – check you’ve got all of your documentation ready for your trip including passports/ID (and perhaps photocopies), accomodation confirmations, hire car info, flight details etc.

If all this is sounds too hard, overwhelming, you need someone to look in on your place whilst you are away or you are just plain running out of time, Quintillion can help. Hallelujah.

Just give them a buzz on 1300 014 400. For more information you can check out their website here.
