The Prospect Art Walk makes murals come to life through augmented reality

With dozens of artists, venues, musicians, and muralists coming together on Prospect Road, this three-day augmented reality-focused activity is sure to be lively.

With more than 20 artists, 14 venues, 10 musicians, and 7 muralists coming together to put on the augmented reality-focused event on Prospect Road, the streets are about to come to life in more ways than one.

Perfect for art lovers or friends looking for a quirky activity, the art walk encourages participants to download an app to see art through augmented reality (AR) technology. The event, which is hosted by the City of Prospect and part of the Adelaide Fringe, takes place from 7 – 10pm this from March 11 – 13.

Art Walkers collect a drink and a map upon arrival at the Newmarch Gallery and get a run-through of how the event and app work. The first exhibition is Mother’s Ilk; a very quirky and humble exhibition which launched just a week ago.

Heading out on the street, guests will follow a map to find 14 different spots where they can discover art exhibitions, live art, AR murals, art workshops, private disco parties for art walkers, and so much more.

There are seven new murals (temporary and long-term) being created for the event over the three nights, plus 6 existing murals with the AR technology added to give them new life. There are around 14 exhibitions with artists present to meet and greet, watch live painting, buy art and even have a go at making your own art with some interactive workshops.

Participating businesses are offering art walkers excellent discounts and exclusive deals to their menus and some have extended their licence so you can drink on a road, in the carpark or in a cinema whilst doing a life drawing class.

The event takes around 90 minutes, and the venues are open until at least 10pm so participants can stay as long as they’d like if the venues have capacity. Sessions times when purchasing tickets simply help to spread people out during the event.

There’s also going to be live music along the way, late night shopping and unique local art to buy on the night.

The event begins at 128 Prospect Road.
