The Races Go Irish Tomorrow!

In case your didn’t have your Saturday planned out, Irish Race Day at Morphetville is sure to be an absolute craic-er!

With one of the most popular events on South Australia’s racing calendar – Irish Race Day – arriving at Morphettville Racecourse this Saturday (August 27) race-goers are gearing up to paint the track green.

It wouldn’t be a day of celebrating the Irish without a touch of green and Guinness pints to knock back while enjoying spectacular Thoroughbred racing. Race-goers are encouraged to incorporate green into their race day outfit, the colour eminent with all things Ireland.

Irish Race Day features some of Morphettville’s best hospitality offerings. Race-goers are invited to gather in the Derby Pavilion to celebrate in the Taste of Guinness area, where they’ll enjoy traditional Irish fare and a pint of Guinness or two, in a fantastic indoor/outdoor area. Hospitality packages can be purchased up until Friday afternoon, otherwise patrons can enter this area on the day with a General Admission ticket.

On the track, trainers, jockeys and punters alike will be hoping for a dose of Irish luck with the eight-race program commencing just after 12.30pm.

The Australia v Ireland Jockey Challenge is a feature of the race day, which will see the Australian side of Martin Kelly, Steven Pateman, Paul Hamblin and Shane Jackson, go head-to-head with the Irish team – Katie Walsh, Ian McCarthy, Luke Dempsey and Tom Ryan, in a hurdle and steeplechase event.

The Australia v Ireland Jockey Challenge plays out during three races held over two race days, which kicked off with a high-weight flat race at Murray Bridge on Wednesday (August 24).

In addition to the racing action there will be plenty of trackside excitement with live music from popular Irish band, The Borderers, and performances from Wasabi and The Timbers throughout the day. To celebrate the theme of the day, all Irish Passport holders will receive free entry to Morphettville, upon presentation of the photo ID page in their Irish passports.
