Rojomoma Wine Tastings: An Immersive And Intimate Experience

The gorgeous, rustic winery is well known for its creative winemaking, and they’re offering a range of intimate experiences of food and wine.

Rojomoma Winery, a micro winery based in the heart of the Barossa Valley is offering a range of outstanding wine and viticultural experiences from introductory to indulgent.

Founded by Sam Kurtz and Bernadette Kaeding, Rojomoma is the product of six generations of Barossan winemaking dating back to the 1840’s. The 50 years of combined experience between the pair is showcased through their exquisite collection of award winning handmade wine.

Their slew of awards all point towards their excellent wine in the short time Rojomoma has existed. Some of said awards include the The Most Successful Exhibitor Small Producer at the Barossa Wine Show 2017, Top 10 Best New Wineries in James Halliday 2014 Wine Companion, and The Most Outstanding Wine Small Producer Trophy for the Red Art Shiraz 2010 at the Barossa Wine Show 2012.

To articulate the defining qualities of the winery, Rojomoma offer 3 differing experience packages; The Introductory, the In-Depth and the Immersive Vineyard Wine and Dine Experience.

Whilst all differ, all include spending significant personal time with both Kurtz and Kaeding allied with a private wine tasting; a fantastic opportunity to gain a snapshot into the wealth of creative winemaking knowledge both share.

The Introductory includes 1 hour spent with Kurtz and Kaeding, stepping inside to the rustic micro winery to relax and enjoy a private wine tasting featuring a selection of current and cellar release wines from the Red Art and Wild Scarlet collections.

The 2 hour In-Depth experience involves whisking you away to a walking tour of the Ebenezer vineyard sampling the Red Art Grenache amongst the backdrop of the stunning 133 year-old bush vines. Following that will again be a private tasting but this time including Raj’s Pick Collection. An amazing spread of delicious local small goods and cheeses will also accompany the superb wine.

For the seasoned veteran immersive experience, a 3 hour afternoon outing is on offer. Incorporating all the elements of both packages above, you are treated to a magnificent fully catered two course lunch.

Whilst gorging on the terrific food, you will be privy to the current and cellar release wines from the Red Art Collection as well as the crown jewel that is the multiple vintage Red Art Amplify Shiraz.

12 years in the making, the Red Art Amplify Shiraz in the words of Rojomoma, is the ‘purest expression of Shiraz from our single vineyard … the luscious aged complexity from the older vintages is lifted by the intense primary fruit from the younger ones. The individual parcels knit together, removing vintage variation and thus amplifying the unique Shiraz to create a true varietal expression.’

The cream of the crop is yielded from the 5ha vineyard sub region, Ebenezer. The vines at Ebenezer are hand pruned, shoot thinned and handpicked, with each vine receiveding special individual treatment. Shiraz, Tempranillo, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon are found here, together with dry grown Grenache vines, planted in 1886.

With the first Red Art wine made in 2004, traditional handcrafting methods used on site involve open ferments and basket pressing. Combining modern artisan approaches including wild yeast, barrel ageing on yeast lees and whole bunch ferment. Restrained oak is also used staying true to its single vineyard origins.

Prices vary from $20 per person for the Introductory to $360 per person for the Immersive, a true indication to how much the latter has to offer. Bookings can be made through the website at www.rojomoma.com.au.

Pay Rojomama a visit for a beautiful tasting or the Rolls Royce treatment, it’s up to you.
