The Old Stag Adds A Few Notches To Its Belt And Becomes The Fat Stag

The Stag

The Stag, Adelaide’s famous, east end pub has been renamed the Fat Stag and is set to reopen in September.

With a small change in the name, the new owners, Adelaide businessman Phillip Speakman, Victorians Dean Grant and Chris Kenny and lawyer Jamie Heal, are keen to revive what has been an Adelaide icon for some time. The old Stag as we know it has gone but the new owners feel that they will be giving Adelaide what it needs with a new take on the old and by adding a few notches to their belt with a large offering on their plate!

It has been interesting as the perfectly situated pub has prime location during such events as Clipsal and Fringe but still seemed to under perform, which ultimately led to its liquidation in April this year.

With the new and somewhat plumper Stag set to deliver a whole lot more than the old Stag, it will also aim to maintain a focus on delivering high quality food and wine. With the old Stag toting itself as ‘Adelaide’s Worst Vegetarian Restaurant’, maybe vegetarians will be offered more at the Fat Stag!

Keep your eyes open for the Fat Stag ideally opening in September this year.
