The Stirling Hotel Reveal Two New Delicious Menus

Both the Restaurant and award winning Grill menus at The Stirling have been given a do-over. We found the new additions to be most enjoyable.

One of the Adelaide Hills finest purveyors of gourmet delights, the Stirling Hotel, have been busy, revealing brand new Bistro and Grill menus just in time for the tail end of the cool months. Building upon their reputation as a destination for long afternoon meals with friends, Glam Adelaide was fortunate to take part in an afternoon of mouth-watering delights and warm hospitality in homely, Hills style.

And where else could we begin on a Friday afternoon than at the Stirling Gin Club, where the effusive Richie gave us a special insight into their extensive list of small batch, local and international gins as well as tonics and tonic syrups. His passion for the connection between local winemakers and distillers and what they have to offer was infectious with our favourite pairing unsurprisingly from the region –  Fever Tree tonic and Applewood Gin from Gumeracha, mixed with punchy peppercorns and a garnish fresh lime hits the spot!

It’s the sort of club we all want to join…

It was the perfect aperitif for the first taste of their new Bistro menu – a delectable Miso Brisket taco laden with fresh Mexican slaw and tangy sriracha lime dressing with lacings of coriander. This was followed by a Salt and Pepper Japanese Eggplant, with zingy tomato chilli relish and silky whipped fetta served on a bed of long croutons and greens. And last but not least is a bowl of Texas Chilli, beef, pork, black beans, corn, guacamole, tomato salsa, sour cream surrounded by crispy tortilla. Flavour and technique seem equally balanced on this menu, and these meals are by no means the bridesmaid to the grill menu, providing a wonderful array of variety.

Our appetites whetted, we moved onto the award winning Grill restaurant, under the masterful helm of Head Chef Brendan Boothroyd. There’s something about being seated in view of a fetching array of antlers and a toasty fire that draws your eye back outdoors to the grey skies and makes you really appreciate your surrounding. Again, drinks began the course with an SC Pannell ’15 Adelaide Hills Aromatico – a delightfully fragrant blend of Gewürztraminer, Riesling and Pinot Gris from their Gourmet Traveller Wine three glass rated wine list our selection.

Starting off, the melt in your mouth Barramundi served with drizzled maple, baby carrot, dehydrated beetroot, scallop and beurre blanc give a clue that this isn’t a Grill menu solely focused on butcher cuts. With our palates whirring, the next dish – a dainty tea smoked duck, accompanied by morsels of Jerusalem artichoke, smooth corn, tangy blood orange, endive and fennel continues to show the versatility of the menu. As we began to feel rather satiated, the last plate – a spectacular presentation of Beef Cheek, served on a large disc of yellow polenta, dehydrated celeriac, 62° egg and squid ink is perhaps a bit salty, but that’s a small quibble and one that is easily fixed with a few tweaks. The meat itself simply melts.

As if this array of gourmet pleasures was not enough, we were escorted to the Cellars and Patisserie further up the hill behind the Hotel, and treated to a stunning array of petit fours and patisserie with gorgeously fragrant Five Senses coffee by patisserie manager Evan. He talked us through their world class sweets, their wide range of local, Australian and international wines, spirits, craft beers and a few old favourites.
